After Care 2:00-6:00
Job description:
The responsibilities of the After Care Counselor is to maintain the security and safety of the children in his/her care, and implement daily activities and After Care activities that are developmentally appropriate and congruent with the center’s philosophy and goals.
Essential Duties/Tasks
-Supervise children at all times by sight and sound
-Develop a warm and nurturing relationship with children and the parents
-Observe children closely enough to be aware of any changes in behavior and health
-Understand and use positive behavior techniques that help each child to develop the ability to be self-disciplined
-Enforce all safety rules of the center; understand and implement, emergency procedures for fire, storm, medical, first aid, CPR, etc.
-Promote good hygiene through appropriate hand washing, diapering and sanitation techniques according to PA state regulations
-Operate the classroom in compliance with all child care licensing standards and those of our accrediting agency
-Plan, prepare and implement weekly lesson plans with activities that are both age and individually appropriate using the center curriculum as its foundation
-Promote language development through storytelling, music, conversation, book reading and pretend play.
-Organize a classroom environment that is conducive to appropriate behavior and learning for the age group
-Provide a calm, pleasant, interactive experience for the children during snacktime and other activities
-Provide regular, ongoing, positive communication with parents, according to the expectations for the age group including, but not limited to, daily written and verbal reports
-Maintain a clean, safe, healthy and attractive classroom environment according to the standards set forth by the director/owner.
-Attend staff meetings and in house trainings both during and after regular hours.
-Attend workshops, training and continuing education classes as determined in the individualized training plan.
Other Duties and Tasks:
-Contribute to the center’s general appearance and condition; notify the director of any facility problems.
-Notify the director when supplies are low or toys and materials are broken.
-Arrive to work on time with minimal absences.
-Answer the telephone in a pleasant, professional manner.
-Participate in all program evaluations.
-Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
-Safely lift small children up to 35 lbs.
-Bend, stoop and kneel to the children’s level
-Sit on the floor and child sized chairs
-Stand for extended periods of time
-Withstand periods of time in the sun, heat or cold outside.
-Utilize stairs with children to transition to various classrooms and activities.
Experience:
Childcare: 1 year (Preferred but will train the right candidate)
