Lafayette Lancers High School
(Ballwin, Ellisville, Wildwood, Chesterfield,
West St. Louis County, MO)
was established in 1960
when 288 students enrolled as
freshmen or sophomores on September 7, 1960. Before then future LHS students had
attended Eureka High School off of Highway 109. By the 1962-1963 school year LHS
had become a four-year high school,
with its first graduating class numbering 104

seniors. By 1974 the student population had
mushroomed by almost 600%
Such vast expansion required the faculty
to increase by 500% since the founding of the school. Lafayette High School moved to a new location
in 1989 to accommodate the huge student population growth. An entire new two story school is now located on
53-acres at the corner of Clayton Road and Highway 109
in Wildwood, just down the road a bit from the original
Lafayette High School also located on Clayton Road that
is now known as Crestview Middle School. Selvidge Junior High also used to send students to LHS,
but they are now sent to the new Marquette High School
on Clarkson Road at Kerhs Mill Road in Clarkson Valley. Louis County's
largest public school system, serving about 22,000 students. Covering 150 square miles in parts of western St. Louis and northern Jefferson counties, Rockwood serves an estimated 150,000 residents in 50,000 households. Eleven distinct communities are within Rockwood's boundaries, including all or parts of Ballwin, Chesterfield, Clarkson Valley, Ellisville, Eureka, Fenton, Manchester and Wildwood. Often named & referred to as
"Lafayette Senior High School",
there has never been a
"Lafayette Junior High School"
in the History of the Rockwood
R-6 School District.
