Today is the Opening Service at CLA. In addition to this being the 50th school year for California Lutheran, it is also the 25th year in the Education Center on our Wildomar campus. For years, the permanent location of the school was only a dream. Modular facilities at King of Kings in Garden Grove, as well as rented public schools in Tustin, Garden Grove, and Huntington Beach were all viewed as temporary solutions while we searched for a permanent home.

The current property in Wildomar was purchased in 1993. Construction and permitting issues led to the 1993-1994 school year being conducted on the campus of St. Stephen Lutheran Church and School in Fallbrook. The first graduation on our Wildomar campus occurred in 1994 in a tent. This was to fulfil a promise made to the senior class by principal, Ken Petersen, that they would graduate on the Wildomar campus. Still without an occupancy permit for our modular classrooms, the 1994-1995 school year began in space provided by Rancho Community Church in Temecula. Finally, in early November of 1994, classes began in modular classrooms on the Wildomar campus. The next eight school years were held in these modular classrooms on our current campus.

The Dedication of the Education Center on September 1, 2002 saw the gymnasium filled with members of our California Lutheran High School Association churches from around the state. Principal Greg Bork conducted the service, District President Paul Janke preached the sermon, and representative students–one per grade from Pre-K through 12th grade–were on stage to represent the present and future of CLHS. A mass choir and orchestra directed by Mrs. Jane Neujahr beautified the service.
