Yesterday in our nature lesson, we explored trees and their importance to both us and our Earth. We learned about native trees found in Mississippi and had the opportunity to get up close with a seed pod from our very own Magnolia tree.

Our children then worked together to build a LEGO community filled with numerous trees, using their creativity to incorporate nature into their community.

Afterward, we studied the work of another artist, Christian Rohlfs. Students observed how his tree artwork captured the changing season and the beautiful colors of fall. They then used Q-tips to create their own artwork inspired by his painting, all while discussing the signs and beauty of the upcoming fall season. 💚

Our class is FULL, and we’re getting into such a good flow with our classroom full of helpers! They now have class jobs that help us manage it all, and I love seeing their initiative, independence, and willingness to jump in and help.

We enjoyed inside recess today, and it was kind of spectacular! We’re finding even more pockets of time in our day for play as students learn to manage their time well. They’re getting closer and closer each and every day, and we are so proud of them!

I found a few selfies on my phone this week too 🤪

How cute are these?! I can't tell you how excited I am about them. One of our Ivy moms made these for all of our students in their colors, so now we can label all the things all year long and do it in style! ☺️🤩

I wanted to show them all to you, but we try to keep some confidentiality and safety here so I'm just sharing one of the teacher kid ones with permission, and you'll have to take my word on the others 😉

🌱Another big day of growth! 💚

Two more friends completed their growth goal charts, adding 24 more goals met to our class total! That brings us to 132 collective goals met so far this school year!

Every little goal is a chance to practice perseverance, celebrate progress, and prove to ourselves: we can do hard things. So proud of these friends and all the growth happening at Ivy!

Today we brought together nature study, poetry, and art in the sweetest way. 🌻

Our students are currently studying flowers for Nature Studies, so today we took a closer look at flowers while also learning about a new artist: Vincent van Gogh.

We studied van Gogh and his famous Sunflowers, then created our own sunflower drawings inspired by his work.

We also read a flower poem from The Good and the Beautiful and talked about the parts of a poem before turning our attention to the parts of a flower. We love finding connections between subjects and seeing how one lesson can naturally lead into another.

A little art, a little poetry, a little science—and lots of beautiful learning happening along the way. 🌻

What a good day! Five more friends completed their growth goal charts—which means 108 collective goals met in our class so far this school year. 😉

We also wrapped up our first week of Presentations! Each week, students get the chance to share what they’ve learned through our Memory Work, giving our brave kiddos a simple, short introduction to public speaking. We’re so proud of them for stepping up and sharing!

And of course, there were plenty of stickers chosen from the Sticker Store to decorate water bottles and notebook covers, along with some very well-earned prizes from the Treasure Chest.

Lots of growing, learning, celebrating, and cheering each other on today!

Today at The Ivy was a little bit messy, a little bit wild, and exactly the kind of learning we love.

We emptied our worm bin into the flower garden and got a closer look at our wiggly little friends. One friend discovered a lizard, another dreamed up a pond for his construction-truck flower bed, a group built an obstacle course, and others cooked up some very questionable (but very creative) recipes in the mud kitchen. 🪱🤭

There were worms, dirt, building, problem-solving, nature, imagination, and plenty of room to follow an idea wherever it led.

Just another Day at the Ivy. 💚
