Ran across this supportive quote today.:

“ A teacher is only as effective as his ability to understand where his student is.”

How helpful is this?

Managing Child Anxiety
According to many psychologists, parents who acknowledge their child’s concerns are better equipped to help them relax and talk about them.
“I see that is really bothering you; let’s talk about it”
Break worries into small manageable parts.
Ask, “What is something small we can do about this?”
Focus on solutions, not the problem. Develop team spirit.
“Let’s figure this out together”

Excellent information!

People with auditory processing disorder (APD) have a hard time hearing small sound differences in words. Someone says, "Please raise your hand," and you hear something like "Please haze your plan." You tell your child, "Look at the cows over there," and they may hear, "Look at the clown on the chair."

APD, also known as central auditory processing disorder, isn't hearing loss or a learning disorder. It means your brain doesn't "hear" sounds in the usual way. It's not a problem with understanding meaning.

People of all ages can have APD. It often starts in childhood, but some people develop it later. Between 2% and 7% of kids have it, and boys are more likely to have it than girls. The disorder can lead to learning delays, so kids who have it may need a little extra help in school.

APD may be linked to other things that cause similar symptoms. In fact, it may be part of the reason some people have dyslexia. And some experts think children are sometimes diagnosed with ADHD when they actually have APD. (WebMD)

For our parents:

Helping Your Student When He Learns Slowly

Motivational quote of the day:

“It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop. “
Confucius

Progress over speed:

It’s OK you’re not learning as quickly as others. Everyone learns at their own pace. Just keep moving forward step-by-step. Don’t quit. Look at how much you already have accomplished! You don’t have to master everything in one day.

Example: No one became an excellent soccer player in one day… it took one step at a time.

Dyslexia …
Learning to read is hard for kids with dyslexia. But it gets easier when you approach dyslexic students the right way.
So what is the right way to teach your child with dyslexia to read? Using strategies that work with their strengths gives them the feeling that they can accomplish a task.
We need to understand their brains process language differently. Therefore, using a systematic approach with a strong focus on phonics is the way to go.
Contact me. Let’s talk about your concerns regarding reading for your child. I offer a complementary 30 minute consultation.

Hey, Students! Today is a great day to read about animals, watch a nature documentary or even visit a wildlife center because today is Wildlife Awareness Day !

It is a special day to learn about animals, nature and how we can help protect them. Animals help keep nature balanced. For example:
Bees help flowers grow by spreading pollen.
Wolves help control animal populations. Birds spread seeds to grow new trees.

We also must remember to be kind to animals, never disturbed animals in the wild. We could also plant trees and flowers-these give food and homes to wildlife. So what’s your favorite wild animal?
