This made me pause as both a teacher and a mom of a son with ADHD.
Know better. Reflect. Plan. Do better.

For many of us, we’re 4-5 weeks into the school year. Routines are becoming “set,” so it’s a good time to evaluate what’s working.
Here are some questions to use with students to get a feel for your community of learners!

I’d add we’re also better at the “how we’ll teach” when we know about our who.
And of course, always know your “why.” 🧡

I adore learning about brains, specifically how what scientists learn about brains can positively impact how we reach and teach kids.
This is an amazing book. Highly recommend and appropriate for teachers at all stages and ages and content areas. Ideal for a book study.

Giving kids a say in how the class is run is a great way to show them their voice matters, and an example of democracy in action.
Whether it’s a social contract, a class constitution, or something as simple as compiled sticky notes, each says, “We’re in this together. What matters to you matters to me.”
And happy first week of work/school! New year, new challenges, and so many new opportunities.
We’ve got this!! 🧡

And we’re back!! 🤗
Some of you have a few more days off; others return in a day or two. I’m hoping your summer brought you ample time to reflect and recharge. It’s always hard to return, but I’m always excited when I walk back into my space for the first time! I hope you feel that, too!
And as the year starts, I hope you look at your world and determine where your focus will be. We can’t do it all. Nope. And it’s ok to say that. I’m committed to my “best yes,” and that means politely declining opportunities - even fabulous ones - that won’t help me meet my goals for the year.
Here’s a handy chart to use in case you’re like me and need to have a few lines ready when the answer to that request should be “no.”
And Happy August!!! 🧡

I’m taking a break from this page for a few weeks. I’m looking forward to snoozing teacher pages and having a feed full of friends, familiy, their pets, and the children they love. 🤗
I’ll leave you with the books in my summer pile. Feel free to add if you have some suggestions! 🙂
Happy summer!! We deserve this break; use it so that giant teacher heart of yours is ready to love on all the learners in August! 🧡
