One of the pillars of the Project LIFE curriculum is Life in the Community, and Fridays are our opportunity to practice those skills in real-world settings.

Today, we met up with Project SEARCH at the Kansas Wildlife Exhibit! We watched the keepers feed the animals, enjoyed a picnic, and learned so much about the animals from the handlers.

Our interns asked lots of great questions, and the handlers did an amazing job sharing information and encouraging their curiosity!

It was a fun day filled with learning, practicing community skills, building social connections, and making memories. We love getting out into the community and learning together!

Interns have been working hard on independent living skills before they head out to their vocational job sites next week!

They’ve been busy learning and practicing important household skills, including:
🧹 Cleaning
🛏️ Making the bed
🛒 Grocery shopping from a list
🧺 Doing laundry

It has been a busy and productive start to the school year!

☀️ Planting our 15 Bean Soup Garden on this beautiful morning! 🌱🍲

Yes, we literally opened a bag of grocery store dry soup mix and planted them straight into the ground to see what happens. It's the ultimate garden science experiment and chaos garden!

Because it's a massive mix of 15 different varieties, we're expecting a crazy patchwork of different leaves, flowers, and bean pods over the next few months. It's going to be a total surprise to see what sprouts first!

We started the day helping the Derby Community Family Services prepare food boxes for distribution. Then we celebrated the end of a successful week with Project SEARCH and ice cream!

Interns, don’t let the stamina and strength you built this year fade over the summer! This is a great opportunity to stay active, keep building your fitness, and be ready to thrive at your job sites when we return in August. Keep up the hard work and make the most of your summer! 💪☀️

A good opportunity for some of our kids (and adults ;) )
