Meet Abwe Abandelwa!

Wichita Southeast High graduate Abwe Abandelwa volunteers his time at the International Rescue Committee helping refugees adjust to life in America.

Upon his arrival to Wichita, Kansas in 2016 the only language Abwe spoke was Swahili. There was no translator and English is a challenging language to learn. For the past two and a half years, Abwe has volunteered at the same facility with the staff who helped him five years ago. He translates, helps with homework, and makes himself available where ever he can offer his services.

The Fall of 2021 Abwe will be attending Hesston College, where he will study Business. After earning a degree in business his plan is to become an entrepreneur/business owner.

Abwe’s goal is to build a successful business in the Republic of the Congo, where his relatives currently live. His success will provide an opportunity to send other family members to school. Abwe will be creating a path for his family to succeed in Africa.

GEAR UP is so very proud of you Abwe!

Meet Katrina Miller!

Katrina is continuing the college going culture in her family,
they are a huge motivation to do well in school.
She decided on Butler Community College to relieve her financial stress, and the opportunity to experience a well-developed agricultural program.
Her major is Agriculture and plans to go into Agronomy at Kansas State University after completing her Associates.
A highlight of her life is the support she has received on her college journey.
Mrs. Farmer who leads the agricultural program at Wichita Southeast High has been a huge help and motivator entering into secondary education, and she is very thankful for her help.
Katrina is most proud of maintaining her grades as As and Bs while working full-time.
Continue working hard Katrina GEAR UP is proud of you!

This page was made over 10 years ago. When I was a student at Southeast High. This was before schools even utilized Facebook or had official pages. This is NOT an official Southeast page. It was simply a student run page by kids who loved their school. Thank You for all the support, but I think its appropriate that we change the page name.

Anyone interested in organizing, or attending a Class of 2007 reunion next year? Tag a friend.

Congrats Southeast High class of 2011!!

13 minutes past 6p.m. maybe I'm blind but it looks beautiful outside.

I wish the Friday song wasn't planted in my head on a Sunday.

I hope everyone I know in Japan is okay.

No school again. I thought the ground hog said we would have an early spring!

So how is everyone spending their snow day?

Happy Black History month!

Just like that the 60 degree weather is gone and freezing cold temperatures have taken over.

anyone from the class of 1981?

This year we will experience 4 unusual dates.... 1/1/11, 1/11/11, 11/1/11, 11/11/11 ......... NOW go figure this out.... take the last 2 digits of the year you were born plus the age you will be this year and it WILL EQUAL .... 111

If anyone finds a fan page for Caldwell or Curtis please let me know. Also if you know of any other elementary or middle schools with pages feel free to post them.

Hot chocolate is perfect for this cold weather.

I like snow days better.

You still did a good job buffs!

Southeast vs Heights game tonight! Go Buffs!!

Is it true Facebook will shut down March 15?

Met Kirstie Alley yesterday! How did everyones first day of 2011 go?

Toy R Us is open 24 hours for Christmas. I wonder how many people will go at 3 am.

Freezing rain and tons of accidents already. Stay in if you don't have to go out. Trust me people are trying to hurry up and Christmas shop and could care less about their driving in bad weather.

I think I am a little late on Christmas shopping.

I'm a little cold but I enjoyed watching the moon all night.

The lunar eclipse should be starting soon. Are there any good spots to watch in Wichita or the surrounding cities?

Any crazy memories at Southeast for your class? Ex: Class of 2007 was the first class to be kicked out of a pep rally.

I found a couple of middle schools and elementary schools that have pages on Facebook. If you know of any other ones feel free to post. I noticed Southeast still has the biggest fan page for high schools!!!

Does anyone know why USD 259 and some students had a problem with Facebook this week? I missed the story and wanted to know what it was about.

It's the holiday time, try doing good deeds and helping others. Giving feels so good.

Does anyone have exciting plans for Christmas break?

I was told by someone it's suppose to be a no faces campaign for fun. But somehow it changed to a stop child abuse by changing your profile picture to a cartoon character. Which upset people because changing your picture can't end abuse. I'm not sure which is correct but just have fun with the profile pictures and don't get so upset at people who did change theirs.
