Doing push ups on your first two knuckles isn't an actual punishment even though you may disagree. It is meant the strengthen your technique and perform past the pain with complete focus. It becomes a test of your will. I remember many years ago on a Med Cruise 1979 we would practice knuckle push ups on the Flight Deck. The surface is pretty rough for obvious reasons. During this time l first learned it's not so much about pain but if you train the mind the body will follow.

Upon doing a technique such as a Jab or Backfist you do not want your hand moving in the opposite direction of intended target.

On a technique where the target is forward you do not want to go backwards to go forwards aka backfist, ect...this is a form of telegraph and slower which leads to ineffective results.

If you could master but one kata you would be exceptional.

It's my belief there are Holistic Properties within the training of Kata.

When you go to a Tournament where nobody knows you and do well. Now your on to something. I've seen some competitor's do not so good but still win due to reputation or friends Judging. These are the Tournaments l stay away from. Fair n impartial must be adhered to or competitors like myself will not attend. There are plenty to choose from. I do prefer an Open Tournament to match against other styles in Kata and Weapons. 2025 will be here before you know it. I will only attend and/or compete at Tournaments that have a 60+ Division. The US Marines made me hard like Iron while Isshin-Ryu has honed the Iron to a fine edge. I must continue to hone that fine edge daily so it remains sharp for intended usage.
