Announcement: Dr. Joy J. Moore Joins Friends University Faculty.

Friends University is pleased to announce that Dr. Joy J. Moore has accepted the position of Professor of Theology & Biblical Interpretation. She will be joining the faculty in the Theology department to teach both general education Bible courses and courses in Biblical Ethics, Biblical Interpretation and Practical Theology. Given her extensive background she will also be an invaluable asset to our Doctor of Ministry program.

Dr. Moore currently serves as a Visiting Scholar at the Litfin Divinity School of Wheaton College. An “ecclesial storyteller,” she is widely recognized for helping communities encounter Scripture as the living story of God—one that forms faith, shapes community and calls people to courageous, faithful living.

With a distinguished career spanning pastoral ministry, theological education and academic leadership, Dr. Moore has served in diverse contexts across the United States and abroad. Her scholarly career is marked by over two dozen publications, in addition to nearly one hundred presentations in both the public and academic spheres. Her previous roles include President of Northern Seminary, Professor of Biblical Preaching at Luther Seminary (where she also served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean) and a faculty leader at Fuller Theological Seminary, Duke Divinity School and Asbury Theological Seminary.

A native of Chicago, Dr. Moore holds a B.A. in Education and Mathematics from National-Louis University, an MDiv from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary and a Ph.D. in Practical Theology from Brunel University/London School of Theology. Her scholarship has centered on Scripture, preaching and the power of story in shaping faith and public life.

Dr. Moore brings to Friends University a deep commitment to the church and the academy. She is dedicated to the formation of students, encouraging them to live with faith, courage and truth as they follow Jesus.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Moore to our community.
