Graduate Student Spotlight, Jerod Payne πŸ’ͺπŸŽ“

Meet a dedicated educator and coach from Valley Center, KS, who chose WSU's Graduate Exercise Science program to further his goal of becoming a qualified Strength & Conditioning Coach.

Currently serving as a K-6 Physical Education teacher and high school football offensive and defensive line coach, he has embraced the program's blend of science, application, and lifelong learning. What stood out most during his studies was the opportunity to continually expand his knowledge while connecting scientific principles with personal coaching philosophies.

Jerod says he'll miss the program's small class sizes, hands-on learning opportunities, and instructors' ability to connect classroom content to real-world practice. One takeaway that resonates most: at WSU, students don't just learn what to do, they learn why they do it.

We're excited to see the impact he'll continue to make in the classroom, weight room, and on the football field. 🌾🏈

The College of Health Professions is proud to welcome the Athletic Training and Exercise Science programs, who officially joined the CHP this summer! πŸŽ‰

The Athletic Training program is now affiliated with the Department of Physical Therapy, and the Exercise Science undergraduate and graduate programs have joined the Department of Public Health Sciences. Current students will not experience any changes to their degree requirements or graduation plans, and both programs will remain located in the Heskett Center through 2026.

This move strengthens collaboration across health disciplines and expands opportunities for research, applied learning, clinical partnerships, and community engagement. By bringing these programs into the College of Health Professions, we are creating new opportunities to advance education, research, and service while preparing students for successful careers in health-related fields.

Please join us in welcoming the faculty, staff, and students of the Athletic Training and Exercise Science programs! We look forward to the exciting opportunities ahead!

πŸ“š Finals Week = Stress β€” but don’t forget: movement is medicine πŸ’™

Just 20–30 minutes of exercise can help lower stress hormones, sharpen focus and memory, and boost your mood. Even a quick walk, light lift, or stretch break can help you study smarter, not just longer.

You don’t need a full workout β€” just a little movement can make a big difference during crunch time. Take care of your brain and your body this finals week. You’ve got this 🧠πŸ’ͺ
