One of the ways I help kids understand nouns and verbs is to create a noun/verb pop-up book. This kid is a little older so, while she speaks and WANTS to write more sophisticated sentences, she was challenged to practice the simplest of sentences using just nouns and verbs to help solidify her understanding of each.
This was made my one of my summer kids. Believe me when I say this kid has TALENT, y'all!!
If you need me, I'll be watching drawing tutorials so I can even be in the same room with some of these kids... If your kid has been in my class or tutoring, they'll know why. ;)

I love this! Teach skills, not punishment.
This also alleviates the "give them a piece of candy and return to class" situation. As a teacher, that was so frustrating.
