The past couple of weeks at CSA have been hectic in art class, but they have been lots of fun. For the CSA Christmas Concert/Art show, I had the students, ALL of the students, draw some part of the Nativity of Christ icon. The youngest ones drew the lambs, there are lots and lots of lambs; the 1st & 2nd graders drew lambs and trumpeting angels, and 3rd graders to 8th graders did the background and, other animals, iconic angels, shepherds, Wise Men, mid-wives, Joseph, the Theotokos, and Christ. They were SOOOO enthusiastic about contributing to the icon. They worried about who would draw the Theotokos and Christ, because they felt that they were not worthy or able to draw them. But this was a student production and the Theotokos and Christ were all products of student effort. Really, I have THE BEST job. Enjoy!

This exhibit of art is from our awesome 1st graders. This project is inspired by artist Wayne Thiebaud, who uses food, lots of deserts, as his inspiration. They drew with pencil, then used crayons. They learned to layer colors and use shading to make their ice cream cones more three dimensional. Enjoy! And Happy Thanksgiving!

Here is the work of my amazing 3rd-4th Grade Art class. The project was to do studies of pears in pencil, chalk pastel, watercolor, and printmaking. For the prints, we used styrofoam plates and did monochromatic pears with printing ink. I then had them wash their printing plates and color them with markers. We then wet the printing paper and printed the pears on the paper. They had so much fun! Enjoy!

It's that time of the school year to post some of the artwork of our amazing and talented CSA students. I love my job and am so lucky to teaching them ways to see the world and the many different techniques use to express the beauty they see in their own ways.
OOPS! I forgot to add the 1st & 2nd Graders masterpieces! Here they are! Enjoy!

Telling stories is at the heart of classical education. Last week, we dove into the powerful story of St. John the Baptist and his role as the Forerunner of Christ. The saints' stories, even the difficult ones, teach our children about courage, faith, and the true meaning of the cross. How do you share these stories with your children?
