Brothers,
We are just under a month away from our annual Founders' Day celebration, and I'd like to encourage all of you to attend.
Speaking at the dinner will be Don Pratt, a man whose name is certainly not foreign to any brother who joined the house after him. Brother Pratt served as president of the house in 1959, the year we were adopted into Beta Theta Pi. Don had a career as chairman of the board at Butler Manufacturing in the Kansas City area. He currently serves as chairman and CEO of Western Investments Inc.. He also serves as chairman of American Century Investment Management, which is domiciled in Kansas City, MO and provides 52 domestic growth value and international equity mutual funds. Please plan to come out and enjoy the presentation that Don will share with us.
Last week we were at a total of 139 attendees. This number has risen to 165, including 46 alumni (27 with guests) and 92 actives/pledges.
Something worth noting for the out-of-towners is that the Wichita Marriott (9100 E Corporate Hills Dr, Wichita, KS 67207 - (316) 651-0333) is providing us with special room rates of $99/night.

Check out Brother Justin Rapp.
Yesterday, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that the eagle that was stolen from the Boy Scouts of America was buried in the backyard of a residence in West Wichita and covered with a tarp and other items. Sgt. Kooser and Deputy Manning of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office began conducting surveillance of the address and asked for assistance from WPD Sergeants Beard and Miller. Officers were granted permission to search the property and located the eagle buried in the backyard. Using a Sheriff patrol truck and tow ropes, officers were able to pull it out of the ground and it is in very good shape. The statue will be returned to the Boy Scouts.
The recovery of this stolen eagle was possible due to help from alert citizens and collective investigation by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office and WPD.
Pictured are the officers who helped in the recovery of the eagle. From L to R:
Top row: Officer Vandermolen and Officer Rapp
Front row: Deputy Manning (SCSO), Sgt. Beard, Sgt. Miller, Sgt. Kooser (SCSO), Sgt. Woodrow and Officer Kepley

Beta Brothers,
I hope this message reaches all of you in good health and wealth. It has been a long time since we've had an alumni event outside of Founder's Day and the Dragon Classic Golf Tournament. Since I haven't seen or heard of anyone setting up these events since Brother Walker Schwartz moved, I thought I'd step in and get the ball rolling again.
My plan is to set up different types of events, so it's not always just dinner or just a drinking event. I would like to include as much alumni as possible, regardless of when they were in the house. I also invite each of you to send me some ideas/events that you would like to see us do.
I'm planning on setting up the first event for some time in August. Watch out for a Facebook invite coming soon.
Lastly, please spread the word to our Facebook-less brothers and others who may not see the invite. Thanks, in advance.
Yours in _kai_,
Brother Adrian Velasquez
