Recently my daughter said something to me that I thought I would never hear her say. “Mom, I want to run for student government.” This is something she would have NEVER said, at the public school she had previously attended. Life Prep Academy has built into her a confidence that was not there before. Two years ago, she came to Life Prep Academy shy, quiet, and afraid to assert herself. Now she is confident and not afraid to try new things. Last year, she had a lead role in the play “Alice and Wonderland”, this year she wants to run for student government; I can’t imagine what next year will bring, but I am excited to see! I am so thankful for the way Life Prep has encouraged her to try things that she would have never dreamt of before. In addition to building up her confidence, Life Prep has also been a blessing spiritually in her life. Thanks Life Prep Academy for the positive impact in my daughters life!

“Hello, Life Prep Family. My name is Tiffany Smith. My husband’s name is Andy and we have been married for seven years. We are blessed to have the happiest blue-eyed one-year-old named Sebastian. We have a dog named Vinny and a cat named Leo. We are so blessed by what God has been doing in our lives.
We’ve been attending Word of Life‘s South campus for three years. Before moving to Life Prep Academy, I worked at a special education school for nine years teaching Art, Life Skills, and Career Readiness. I enjoy reading, making art, trying new foods, drinking coffee, listening to my music too loud, and tending to several house plants. I am very excited to become part of the Life Prep team and to see where God leads me and my family. As always, I keep Jeremiah 29:11 on repeat because I know there is a prosperous future ahead.”

My name is Alisha Smith and I am happy to share that God has opened the door for me to join the Life Prep staff as a secondary English teacher this fall. My passion as an educator is to make my students’ lives better spiritually, mentally, and academically. I love using project-based learning, gamification, and STEAM in my classroom to teach standards and life skills. I have a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in curriculum and instruction as well as 18 years of experience teaching elementary and middle school for Wichita Public Schools. My passion in life is to be a disciple of Christ, a helpmate to my husband, a wise mom to my children, and a servant in my church. I look forward to being a part of the Life Prep family.”

Welcome to our new math teacher, Mrs. Jo Ryder!
“Hello, Life Prep families and staff! I am Jo Ellen Ryder and will be teaching middle school math and two Wichita State Tech classes n the 2023-2024 school year. I can't wait to meet all of you!
My background is quite diverse. Teaching is actually a second career for me. I hold a BS in Computer Science, a MS in Management, a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma, and have used math as I worked across multiple industries: education, retail, non-profit, banking, the courts, and manufacturing. I believe strong math skills are essential for the success of anyone in today’s society and far into the future.
My hobbies and other interests also use math: sewing, needlework, crafting, making jewelry scrapbooking, paracord, drywall mud and tape, laying tile, painting and hanging wallpaper. I love to travel and have visited 35 of the 50 United States and 24 foreign cities. I play four instruments (a bit rusty on a few): cello, flute, piano, and saxophone. I am also a collector of penguins - I have over 700 different ones!
I am a licensed math teacher with a middle school math endorsement. I am a Christian who loves serving God's people. I am excited to work at Life Prep this year.”

Welcome to our new Spanish and ELA teacher, Mr. Mark Foster!
Mark Foster will be joining the Life Prep Academy family for the 2023-2024 school year. He will be teaching English Language Arts and Spanish to secondary students. Before becoming a teacher, Mark served in the US Army for five years working in intelligence. He was honorably discharged in 1993. Mark has spent his entire 27-year career in the Haysville (Kansas) School District. He began his teaching career at Campus High School where he taught Spanish and coached basketball and soccer. After serving as a teacher, Mark was an assistant principal at Campus High School for twenty years. He then was promoted to the administrator in charge of Haysville High School. Mark recently retired from public education after completing this past year as the Principal of Haysville Middle School.
Under Mark’s tenure, Haysville High School partnered with Campus High School to become one of the most successful alternative programs in the state of Kansas. During this time the graduation rate improved from 78.1% to an average of 87.3% from 2002 to 2020. He also spearheaded efforts to create partnerships with local community colleges and technical schools to provide dual credit opportunities for at-risk students. Haysville High School has been recognized as a Capturing Kids Hearts National Showcase School for the last four years and Haysville Middle School was just named a National Showcase School for the 20222-2023 school year.
Mark is excited to join the Life Prep Academy staff along with his wife of 29 years, Tina, who will also be teaching ELA and Spanish. Mark and Tina have served in a number of capacities at church over the years including spending time teaching Sunday School to younger children, working in youth ministry for over ten years, and serving on the praise and worship team. They both are excited to have the opportunity to work together sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the school setting, meshing the calling on their life to spread the Gospel with the calling on their life to educate young people while serving as mentors and disciples of Christ.

Welcome to our new Spanish and ELA teacher, Mrs. Tina Foster!
Tina Foster will be joining the Life Prep Academy family during the 2023-2024 school year and will teach Spanish and English Language Arts. Tina has been happily married for 29 years to Mark Foster who will also be joining the LPA Staff.
Tina and Mark have 6 children and 9 grandchildren. Faith, family, teaching and dogs are the core of her life. They bring her joy and a sense of purpose each and every day.
Tina is passionate about helping others learn and grow whether it be in the classroom or at home with her family.
With a passion for teaching and helping young people learn, she is proud to have graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Tina has 17 years of experience teaching Spanish to students from grades 6-12 in the challenging and prestigious International Baccalaureate Program. Tina shared, “I strive each day to provide the best possible instruction to authentically engage my students in learning that is relevant and applicable to the everyday world. This includes best practices for teaching and learning, creating a safe learning environment, expressing empathy and showing unconditional love towards my students. I look forward to continuing my journey as an educator and making a positive impact on the lives of my students.”

Welcome to our new secondary science teacher, Ms. Ashley Erickson!
“Hello, my name is Ashley Erickson and I will be joining the Life Prep Academy family this next fall. I have 7 years of experience teaching science in Oklahoma and in Kansas. I graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2016. During the summer before my first position as a teacher, I worked at Cameron University's Upward Bound Program which helped students develop college readiness in high school. From 2016 to 2022, I was the chemistry teacher at Ponca City High School. I became the Middle School science teacher at Gordon Parks Academy in 2022 to 2023 for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. I enjoy bringing science to life for students through personal experiences and authentic applications- though safety is always the number one priority. I am excited to teach scientific methods, lab skills, nature of science, and to examine the discoveries which have helped shape our world today. I will be teaching Chemistry, Earth and Space Science, and Biology!”

Yesterday, Life Prep Academy hosted the annual International Food Festival! 16 tables of food from all over the world offered unique dishes for more than 600 people. Staff, students, families and community members attended and celebrated the variety of cultures within our student body.
We can’t wait for the International Food Festival next year!

Ignite The Fire Gala was a huge success. The incredible auction items, delicious food, students' performances, Tim Tebow dedication prayer, & speech, honored guests, and just how amazing everyone looked! Thank you to everyone in our community who attended and supported the expansion of our school.
This was the first event in our new building, and it was truly a night to remember!
