Community college can help open the door to medical school.

For Nika, that journey started in community college. While still figuring out her path, discovering her school's medical society became a turning point.

"That was a really big catalyst for me in the steps I took to get there today," she says.

Through opportunities that gave her greater exposure to the medical field, she was able to volunteer and experience the personal impact of patient interaction firsthand. Every one of our students has a different story that brought them to KansasCOM, and the path to medicine often begins with small steps.

Thank you to the dozens of Wichita organizations that joined us on campus last week to help our student doctors discover ways to serve beyond the classroom and clinic.

From community event support with Sedgwick County Government and Prairie Fire Marathon, to serving families through Ronald McDonald House Wichita, assisting patients with prescription support at Cairn Health ICT mentoring youth with One Heart Project, and helping neighbors through OpenDoor and Catholic Charities, Inc. - Diocese of Wichita there are countless opportunities to make a difference.

Thank you to Student Affairs for putting together the first-time event, and to all the students, families, faculty, and staff who came out to show their support.
