Wichita Public Schools is committed to maximizing every available funding source to support students, staff and schools across the district. Mueller Magnet Elementary School is anticipated to receive $133,000 in LED lighting upgrades through a federal energy grant. Funding through grants and bonds help improve more schools across Wichita! ****Update: Afternoon Pre-K for schools that start at 8 a.m. is canceled for today.

***Update: All after-school programs, activities and athletic practices on WPS property are canceled for today, Wednesday, Sept 16. Athletic events that are hosted out-of-district will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

No school for any 9 a.m. start WPS elementary schools today, Wednesday, Sept. 16, due to the boil water advisory. Students at latchkey at these schools will need to be picked up as soon as possible.

Determinations about Sept. 17 will be made when more information is available.

Schools that are already in session and 9 a.m. secondary start schools will continue as normal.

In addition to the WPS bond proposal, the district has a five-year Capital Improvement Plan to address ongoing facility needs at all schools. If the 2026 Wichita Public Schools bond passes, capital funds would be used at Mueller Magnet Elementary School for HVAC optimization throughout the building, replacing seven sections of roof, adding a sensory room, upgrading dimmable lighting, and accessibility upgrades for mixed abilities over the next five years. Without the bond, these projects may take more than five years to complete. Learn how this bond will impact all WPS buildings at wpsbond.org.
