⚾️ NATIONAL BASEBALL DAY ⚾️
Did you know that William Hoy helped shape the game of baseball as we know it today?

As a deaf player in the late 1800s, Hoy relied on visual cues instead of verbal calls. Umpires and teammates began using hand signals so he could follow the game—something that quickly became standard across the sport.

Today, those same signals are a core part of baseball, all thanks to the impact of one incredible athlete. A powerful reminder that accessibility doesn’t just include people—it can change the game for everyone.

Deaf individuals can use videophones to make calls for things like appointments, calling family, ordering food, and more—similar to using FaceTime.

Video phone services like Sorenson and Purple work much like providers such as Verizon or T-Mobile. They give you your own phone number and access to their service.

To make a call, you log into the videophone service and connect with a sign language interpreter. You then tell the interpreter the phone number you’d like to call. The interpreter places the call and relays the conversation—signing what the other person says to you and voicing what you sign to them.

Why did YOU start learning sign language? 🤟

Was it because…
✨ It’s cool
👶 Your kids
💛 Family or friends
🧠 Education

Drop your reason below—I’d love to hear your story 👇

Kids learning to use their voice often mispronounce words—and that’s okay.
“Spaghetti” might come out as “basketti.”

The same goes for sign language.
Kids don’t have to be perfect to communicate.

A child might sign “mom” with an open hand on their chin—and that’s okay too.

What matters most is communication.
If you understand them, they’re doing great.

With time, practice, and exposure, they will naturally learn and adjust.
