Day 2 started with an exciting announcement! The Reading League Journal is getting a new look! The Reading League Journal is a trusted source guiding educators in adopting evidence-aligned instruction.

TRLJ is published in January/February, May/June, and September/October. With a bonus issue coming for the 10th Anniversary!

Next up was a 10th Anniversary celebration highlighting the growth and impact of The Reading League Chapters over the last 10 years. What started with 3 chapters in the states of Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma, has now grown to a chapter in ALL 50 states AND Washington DC!

It was truly exciting and encouraging to see the chapter representatives walk in demonstrating the growth of the League over the last 10 years. It is special to consider that as Kansas played a part in making this impact over 5 years ago. Thank you to our founding board for starting this chapter.

We commemorate and acknowledge this in our state with an annual recognition of the Fritz/Calewart Literacy Leader Award.

We look forward to many more years of sharing knowledge and inspiring change.

TRL Illinois is hosting an in person conference with a phenomenal speaker line up - Adrea Truckenmiller, Kay Wijekumar, Mitchell Brookins, and Illinois' own Tim Shanahan - who will all be tackling the "Complexities of Comprehension" from different angles and perspectives. All participants will hear from all four speakers, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.

We kicked off day 1 of with a leadership retreat with fellow chapter leaders from across the country. This evening, we took time to connect with literacy leaders from across Kansas at the Welcome Reception.

Explicit Instruction for Literacy Success: A Two-Day Workshop with Dr. Anita Archer

Over two days, participants will examine the essential elements of explicit instruction, including clear learning goals, skillful modeling, guided and supported practice, high rates of student response, and precise feedback, and see how each applies directly to literacy instruction across foundational skills, vocabulary, and comprehension. Dr. Archer will demonstrate these practices live, unpack the reasoning behind them, and give participants the tools to recognize, coach, and sustain them long after the workshop ends.
