Dr. Delia Shropshire, president of Holy Savior Catholic Academy, was among 14 inductees in the Kansas Black Educators Hall of Fame during an event on February 22 at the Rhatigan Student Center.
Dr. Shropshire has been an educator at HSCA for 27 years, and was named president of the school in 2019.

Graduates of Holy Savior Catholic Academy who are planning for their post-secondary education are eligible for a scholarship opportunity established through Holy Savior.

The Beacon of Light scholarship is open to any HSCA graduate who is planning to attend a post-secondary institution. To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:

-- Be a HSCA graduate who attended the school for at least three years
-- Be a student graduating from any area high school
-- Have at least a 2.5 grade point average
-- Enroll full time in a post-secondary accredited institution in the fall of the upcoming school year
-- Show charitable, religious and/or community volunteer service
-- Demonstrate leadership skills and activities
-- Reapply each year for the scholarship

The application deadline is April 6, 2025. Students must complete the scholarship application and student essay, provide one letter of recommendation and official transcripts.

In honor of Black History Month, the ARISE Ensemble and the Holy Savior Catholic Academy Choir will host the 2nd Annual “Journey to Freedom” benefit concert on Sunday, February 25 at 3 p.m.

The concert will feature three songs each by ARISE (African Americans Renewing Interest in Spirituals Ensemble) and the Holy Savior Catholic Academy choir, which includes 30 students in grades 4th through 8th. The two choirs will also sing songs together.

The concert is part of the ARISE Choir’s initiative, TEACH (Transformation, Empowerment, Advocacy, Cultural Appreciation and Hope). The concert is a benefit for both ARISE and HSCA. It will be held in the gymnasium at Holy Savior, 3000 E. 13th St. N.

Holy Savior Catholic Academy is once again part of the growing movement known as "Giving Tuesday", which encourages people to donate to charitable organizations on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

The Catholic Diocese of Wichita is part of the nationwide Catholic Giving Tuesday program, , which encourages Giving Tuesday donors to give to Catholic organizations. For the third consecutive year, Holy Savior Catholic Academy is part of the program. Giving Tuesday is November 28, but donations are now being accepted.

There are envelopes designated for Giving Tuesday in the church vestibule. Donations can also be made online to Holy Savior through the program by visiting https://wichita.igivecatholic.org/organizations/holy-savior-catholic-academy

Visit the McDonald's at 17th and Hillside from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26 to support Holy Savior Catholic Academy!

Holy Savior Catholic Academy will have a float in this year's Wichita River Festival parade, which will be held on Friday, June 2. All HSCA alums are invited to participate by walking along the float on the parade route. If you want to take part in the parade with Holy Savior, dress in your Holy Savior colors (red and black) and meet at 5 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, 430 N. Broadway. The parade begins at 6:30 p.m. Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you on Friday!

The Baccalaureate Mass for Holy Savior's Class of 2023 was held this morning. Students were recognized for achievements and accomplishments throughout the year. The graduation ceremony for the eighth graders will be held on Tuesday, May 23. Holy Savior congratulates the Class of 2023 and wishes them the best as they move on to high school!

Calling all HSCA alumni: For the first time in 30 years, Holy Savior will host a home boys basketball game on Thursday, January 12. A pep rally will be held in the new Holy Savior gym from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. The 8th grade boys team will play at 5:30 p.m., followed by the 7th grade team at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer for the Angels in our new gym!
