Well, just when you think there's nothing going on, turn on that infamous scanner and you get West Overland, Motor Vehicle Accident that Downs a Power Pole. That was early yesterday, 5:09 a.m. The call came in. Single vehicle accident with injury. West Overland and Avenue I in Scottsbluff. Fire department advised to proceed with caution as power lines may be down in the area.

Next up, we heard talk of a stabbing that happened Sunday night in Alliance. Nebraska State Patrol was assisting Alliance Police Department looking for the knife around the 2nd and Howard area. Later, traffic revealed two troopers at an address on Laramie referencing the stabbing suspect. Moments later, Trooper 171 reported that they had one male, 10-15, or in custody.

A Chadron resident received a Sam's Club package in a very unusual way. Trooper 338 found an unopened Sam's Club package at mile marker 165 on Highway 385 and took it upon himself to deliver it personally. Can you imagine having the Nebraska State Patrol show up at your door late at night only to be delivering a package?

Around 2 a.m., a call came in from 9th Avenue in Scotts Bluff that there was a male bleeding from being slashed by another male. Regional 2 responded and transported one 60-year-old male to the hospital with hand and forearm injuries. Ironically, just two hours later, from the exact same address, a 38-year-old male needing transport for a medical condition from falling off a roof a couple of days ago. Our prayers for him.

Utah horseman Jim Hicks on how he trains his horses to handle the situations that might be uncomfortable for them.

"I want to create thinking horses that respond, that learn to think their way out of a problem versus horses that react and check out. And so what I have found for myself is that in doing that, I need my horses familiar with the things that I'm going to expose them to, so that when I expose them to things that they're unfamiliar with, that they'll work with me and we can work through it in a positive way. This was a valuable lesson that I learned with a horse that I took to Tom Dorrance was when you allow the horse's curiosity to work for you, it's more powerful and more potent for the horse because what happens is you go out in the pasture and your intent is to catch the horse, you might just sit there and look at the tail end up because you're trying to catch them. But if you walk out in the pasture with a bucket of tools and you set them down and you start doing the job, the horse's curiosity will draw them in."

Let's take a look at where our harvest crews are now.

First of all, Bashutski Harvesting is in eastern Montana. They're still working on lentils, but the end is in sight for that crop. The crew has got to experience some rough terrain getting into the field. No flat fields here, they wrote.

American Harvesting left Richardton, North Dakota early Friday morning, had one blowout along the way, but made it safely back to Burlington, Colorado by Friday evening. While the crops from south to north were not what they expected or wanted, they are grateful for the jobs they had and the amazing people they met along the way. They are currently looking for fall acres, happy to travel north or south. Corn, milo, sunflowers, if you need help, American Harvesting has the equipment and support to do it. And an update from the Demaray Harvesting and Trucking crew. They're closing in on the end of wheat harvest in southwest North Dakota. Next, they'll move to canola, then it's off to Langdon in the northeast corner of the state for wheat and canola. They're probably there now. If not, we'll be soon.

Zeller Harvesting was working on milo about six days ago with a customer who likes to fill his silo and then do a ground pile. For some, it's a lost art, but not for this farmer. He's pretty special.

And I hope you had your waffles yesterday. It was National Waffle Day and we're celebrating farmers who grow the wheat that becomes the flour behind some of our favorite foods. A big thank you to America's wheat growers for helping feed families across the country one breakfast at a time. That message is from the National Association of Wheat Growers.

Panhandle Scanner was made aware of a video that was circulating rapidly. We do appreciate everyone who shared it with us, and when we receive serious information, we take time to evaluate it with our full team involvement.

We originally posted about the incident very early in the morning, and then later attached the video once we were able to speak with law enforcement at the county level. We're talking about a disturbing video with an obvious use of force action in it. We emphasize we do not know the circumstances of what led up to the charges of his assault on the police officer and disorderly conduct, amongst other charges.

But please understand that our local police officers are held to a strict standard, and in any use of force action, an automated investigation is triggered. We did get verification from law enforcement at the county level that the video did involve Scotts Bluff police officers with no other agencies believed to be present. With an automatic investigation triggered and a use of force action, we look forward to the investigation by the Scotts Bluff Police Department.

In another unfortunate incident, an accident on Interstate 80 near Grand Island on Thursday morning prompted a response from multiple agencies and remains under investigation. Unfortunately, a woman was driving the wrong way down Interstate 80 and was hit head-on by a semi, resulting in her death. Our prayers for the Roberts family in their time of loss and also for Mr. Wakefield, the driver of the other vehicle, in his recovery.

Bill Bormes is an accomplished American professional horseman, horse trainer, and business manager based out of Castle Rock and Elizabeth, Colorado. He operates Bill Bormes Performance Horses, Inc., where he trains open and amateur horses and coaches riders.

Bormes has also shared his personal story publicly regarding a major medical recovery. Following an initial knee replacement surgery where his metal allergies were overlooked, he suffered severe complications, including multiple strokes. He successfully reclaimed his mobility after a complex revision surgery performed by orthopedic specialists at AdventHealth Porter in Colorado.
