Auditions for Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer

Audition Dates:
Ages: 10 thru adults:
Ages 10-13 at 4:30PM on Monday Sept 21st only
Ages 14- 17 at 5:30PM on Monday or Tuesday Sept 21st or 22nd
Adults 6:30PM Tuesday Sept 21st or 22nd
PLEASE NOTE: There will only be a few ensemble roles for the 10-12 age range. This is NOT a large cast production! There are opportunities for swings or doubling so we can incorporate more performers though.
Performance Dates:
Fridays are at 7:30PM, Saturdays are at 1PM and 5PM, Sundays at 2:30PM
November 21, Dec. 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19, 20 and there are 2 days with School performances on Dec. 8 and 10. 9:30AM and 12:30PM both days.
If cast you must leave Thursday thru Sunday available if the demand is there to add shows.
Rehearsals: Generally M, T, and Th are the primary days from 6PM to 8:30PM with adjustments if necessary. Choreography could be on Saturday AM or Sunday afternoons
Audition Material: A monologue of 1 min or less and a NO MORE THAN 16 bar cut from a musical piece of your choice (please nothing from the show). You will use your own phone or iPad for your accompaniment or sing a ca****la.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical
Short Synopsis
Based on the beloved classic television special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: The Musical brings the familiar Christmas story to life onstage.
Born with a glowing red nose, Rudolph struggles to fit in with the other reindeer and sets off on an adventure with fellow misfits Hermey the Elf, who dreams of becoming a dentist, and Yukon Cornelius, the larger-than-life prospector. Along the way, they encounter the Abominable Snow Monster, visit the Island of Misfit Toys, and discover that the very things that make them different may also make them special.
Filled with recognizable characters and classic songs, the musical is a colorful, nostalgic Christmas production centered on acceptance, friendship, courage, and finding where you belong.
Character Breakdown
Rudolph — The heart of the story. A young reindeer born with a glowing red nose who is teased because he is different. Sweet, vulnerable and ultimately courageous. Needs a performer who can carry the emotional journey while maintaining the innocence of the familiar character.
Hermey — An elf who doesn't want to make toys—he wants to be a dentist. Funny, sincere and determined to follow his own path. One of the show's strongest comic and character roles.
Yukon Cornelius — An outrageous, energetic prospector searching for silver and gold. Big personality, physical comedy and plenty of opportunities for an actor to steal scenes.
Sam the Snowman — The narrator who guides the audience through Rudolph's story. Warm, personable and charming. Requires a strong storyteller who can immediately connect with the audience.
Santa Claus — The familiar Christmas icon, but he also has an important role in Rudolph's journey. Needs authority, warmth and a larger-than-life presence.
Mrs. Claus — Warm, caring and supportive, particularly when Santa becomes preoccupied with Christmas preparations.
Donner — Rudolph's father. Proud and initially embarrassed and worried about Rudolph's unusual nose. His relationship with Rudolph gives the story some of its emotional weight.
Mrs. Donner — Rudolph's loving and protective mother. More accepting of Rudolph and supportive of him despite the reactions of others.
Clarice — A young doe who sees past Rudolph's red nose and genuinely likes him. Sweet and compassionate, with an important connection to Rudolph.
Coach Comet — Oversees the young reindeer and their training. A strong comic character who helps establish Rudolph as an outsider.
Fireball — One of the young reindeer and initially Rudolph's friend before joining the others in making fun of him.
Boss Elf — Runs Santa's workshop and expects every elf to happily make toys—which makes Hermey's desire to become a dentist particularly troublesome. Strong character-comedy role.
King Moonracer — The majestic ruler of the Island of Misfit Toys. A distinctive character who explains the plight of the unwanted toys.
The Abominable Snow Monster (Bumble) — The show's major creature character. Usually heavily dependent on costume/puppetry, physical performance and theatrical effects rather than traditional acting.
Charlie-in-the-Box, Spotted Elephant, Dolly and the Misfit Toys — Colorful featured characters on the Island of Misfit Toys. These can provide excellent opportunities for ensemble members and younger performers.
Elves, Reindeer and Ensemble — A substantial part of the production. They populate the North Pole and allow for large musical numbers, choreography and opportunities to involve a sizable cast.
