Dolly Parton understood something beautifully simple: a book can change a life.

Through her Imagination Library, she has helped put millions of books into the hands of children, building a love of reading from the very beginning.

Dolly’s commitment to literacy reminds us that literacy isn’t only a childhood gift. It’s a lifelong opportunity.

For adults who struggle with reading, literacy can mean being able to fill out a job application, read to a child, understand important information, navigate everyday life with confidence, or finally pick up a book and enjoy it for themselves.

This is the work we’re proud to continue here at the Wichita Adult Literacy Council. We help open doors for adults to greater independence, opportunity, and connection. We believe Dolly got it right when she boldly supported literacy. It’s never too late to learn! 💖📚

Did you know that 1 in 4 adults in the United States functions at the lowest literacy level?

For many adults, reading, completing forms, understanding important documents, or pursuing new career opportunities can be everyday challenges.

That's why Wichita Adult Literacy Council exists.

Through free programs like GED preparation, reading support, English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship preparation, and financial literacy, we're helping adults gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

When our community supports adult literacy, we're investing in stronger families, a stronger workforce, and a stronger Wichita Falls.

Meet the Team!

We're excited to introduce Elizabeth Hamilton, Executive Director of the Wichita Adult Literacy Council.

Elizabeth has been with us for a year now. She also brings 15 years of experience in education and nonprofit work to our organization. She began her career as a Special Education teacher and later spent seven years serving Young Life Wichita Falls, where she helped launch Capernaum, a ministry for teenagers with disabilities.

Coming from a family of educators, Elizabeth believes learning has the power to transform lives. She also believes education doesn't have to stop in adulthood.

Her passion for helping others is at the heart of everything we do. She works alongside our staff, volunteers, and community partners to ensure adults in Wichita Falls have access to life-changing educational opportunities.

We're grateful for leaders like Elizabeth who are committed to making literacy accessible for everyone.

Summer may be our quietest season, but there's still plenty happening at Wichita Adult Literacy Council!

While many of our adult learners are balancing family schedules, vacations, or children home from school, we're preparing for a busy fall and spring.

This time of year is spent refreshing curriculum and learning materials, planning for upcoming classes, connecting with new students and tutors, and of course taking book donations for our beloved Book Fair.

Our mission doesn't pause during the summer. It simply shifts behind the scenes so we're ready to help even more adults succeed in the months ahead.
