Google data shows that many parents are wondering what in the world their teens are saying with the slang they use. Have you heard any of these top 10?

1. 67: Not a surprise that this word/number that doesn’t mean much at all tops the list when it was Dictionary.com’s 2025 Word of the Year.

2. Sigma: The sigma label for being true to oneself and maintaining independence.

3. 41: Another nonsensical slang number term, this one is similar to 6-7 and meant to confuse people.

4. Skibidi: A filler word that has no inherent meaning, you may hear your teen say, “What in the skibidi is going on here?”

5. Ohio: If something is “weird” or perhaps “cringe,” your teen may have called it Ohio.

6. Rizz: 2023’s Oxford Word of the Year is still going strong in 2025. If someone has charisma or charm, their rizz is on display.

7. Good boy: This is one that man hope fades soon. Used in a patronizing context toward a rule follower.

8. Skibidi toilet: Like skibidi.

9. Aura: You may have heard your kid describe a classmate as having “aura” - it’s usually a compliment to describe someone as effortlessly cool.

10. Chat: Does your child have a new friend named “Chat?” This is a term of address used towards anyone at all–similar to “bruh.”

Teen slang serves two valuable social purposes. It allows teens to differentiate themselves and experiment with forming their own personal identity (together with their peers...lol) and serve in the role of cultural co-creators.

Everything, everything, everything (even slang) is an opportunity to connect!

Something amazing happened today. When you whisper your truth into the wind, suddenly there are open hearts of the aligned others to walk beside you. May the 4th be with you always! It is with me, because my eldest daughter and I started our saga on May 4th, even though she wasn’t born until 2 days later on May 6th.

This is the day I remember because I was rushed to the hospital with severe pre-eclampsia and life-threatening pre-labor for both, my daughter and me. I was diagnosed with lupus as a result, even though they had suspected it for 10 years; 3 days after her birth she was diagnosed with a duodenal web and had to have the first of several emergency surgeries.

Thus began a rollercoaster ride that took us to the Special Care Unit of the Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital and multiple surgeries later, she eventually came home, four long months later.

She is and always will be my miracle baby!

So, when I talk about “letting go and honoring the person our children are becoming” I share it from lived experience from the heart.

My first conversation with her soul, was about life and death. I told her before she went into her second surgery (since she was so tiny under 3 pounds and weak) that it was her choice if she wanted to fight.

Then I told her if she had it in her, I would love to have a lifetime to love her. Thankfully she and God chose to fight, and she’s been fighting ever since!
