Tuesday, September 8th is College Day and we return to our Google Classrooms and Zoom class meetings. Remember to wear your college t-shirt to your Zoom class meeting. Send photos to on Instagram to be featured on our school page.

Our first PTA meeting is this Tuesday, September 8 at 6pm via Zoom. Please join us as we discuss how to families connected to La Colima during distance learning. The Zoom link will be sent via Aeries message and email on Tuesday afternoon.

I hope you are all staying cool this weekend and enjoying your holiday weekend. Thank you to all of our working parents and family members that contribute to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. We wish you a Happy Labor Day!

Good afternoon, La Colima Owls! This is Ms. Clarke with this week’s message.

Thank you all for a wonderful first week of school! It was great to see everyone on Zoom and I was impressed with all of our Owls’ ability to adapt and learn online routines so quickly.

Our first virtual Back to School Night is this Tuesday and Wednesday for our 1st through 5th Grade parents. On Tuesday, August 18, we have our special education teachers presenting at 4:00pm, our 1st grade teachers presenting at 5:00pm, and our 2nd grade teachers presenting at 6:00pm. On Wednesday, August 19, our 3rd grade teachers will hold their Zoom presentations at 4:00pm, our 4th grade teachers at 5:00pm and our 5th grade teachers will be presenting at 6:00pm. Zoom links will be posted to your child’s Google Classroom.

Our Kindergarten orientation and Back to School Night was held on August 6 before school started. The presentation slides are available in your child’s Google Classrooms and teachers have been following up with one on one meetings with families this past week. If you have not had a chance to connect with your child’s teacher, please make sure to contact them this week and they will be happy to set up a meeting.

If you have not completed your Aeries Parent Portal Data Confirmation, please complete it as soon as possible. Please complete and submit the form by Wednesday, August 26.

A final reminder- Our school office is open by appointment only on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Good afternoon La Colima Owls, this is Ms. Clarke with important back to school reminders.

Tomorrow is our drive through distribution day. All students will be assigned his or her own classroom Chromebook and charger to use at home during distance learning and when they return to school. Chromebooks, textbooks, and school supplies will be distributed tomorrow from 8am to 9:30am for Kindergarten and 3rd grades, 9:30-11am for 1st and 4th grades, and from 11am-12:30pm for 2nd and 5th grades.

Our virtual PTA Meet and Greet is this Thursday, August 13 at 2pm. Meet our PTA board and learn how you can stay involved, which is especially important during this time of distance learning.

Our PTA will also be at school tomorrow for our distribution day to begin our membership drive. All Owls who join PTA tomorrow will be entered into a raffle for a gift box worth $50.

Tuesday, August 11 is our first day of school! All classes begin at 8:30am on Zoom. Please make sure you join your Google Classroom prior to Tuesday morning so you have the necessary information to log in to class. Our school office opens today, Monday, August 3. Please remember visits to the office are by appointment only. If you only have documents that need to be dropped off in, you may use the black drop box located below the doorbell.

Parents- as we gear up for returning to school in the distance learning format, please join us for our Digital Parent Bootcamp this week! On August 3, learn how to use Aeries Parent Portal like a pro and on August 4, learn about preparing personal emotions for the new school year. Sessions on August 3 and 4 will be presented via Zoom in Spanish at 9am and in English at 6pm. To learn how to support your child with distance learning, join us on August 6 for the English session at 6pm or on August 7 for the Spanish session at 9am. You can join all sessions on zoom.us. Information is available in your Aeries Parent Portal.

Class assignments will be available online through Aeries Parent Portal beginning at 4pm on Thursday, August 6. Again, you must log into Aeries Parent Portal to find out your new teacher on Thursday beginning at 4pm.

Good afternoon La Colima Owls, this is Ms. Clarke with a special message about Boys and Girls Club.

Boys and Girls Club will be offering child care options at La Colima during distance learning. There are three options available- during the day care from 7:30am-2:00pm, after school care from 2:00-6:00pm, and a full day program from 7:30am-6:00pm. The registration fees are $150 for the year for the during the day program, $50 for the year for the after school only option, and $200 for the year for the full day program.

Boys and Girls Club will be at La Colima on Wednesday, July 29 from 9:30am-11:30am to take applications.

Good afternoon La Colima Owls, this is Ms. Clarke with a special summer update.

I hope that you and your family are finding time to have fun and relax this summer, even with all that is going on recently. I wanted to give you a quick update about the current plans for the 2020-2021 school year. Our district is currently creating a variety of plans for the ever-changing situation so that we are ready to begin the school year on Tuesday, August 11th.

I hope that you were able to attend one of the Town Hall meetings last week. I encourage you to also visit ewcsd.org and check out the 2020-2021 Plan. This site contains a lot of information including the presentation shared at the Town Hall meetings. The presentation gives an overview of what you can expect in regards to daily schedule, arriving at school, classroom safety guidelines, cleaning procedures, recess/lunch procedures, school dismissal, etc.

On Monday, July 13th, a mandatory response form will be available to complete on the website regarding which instructional model you prefer for your child. It is very important that ALL parents complete the survey by July 20th so that we can create our class rosters based on your selection.

Please note that our Superintendent will send out community updates on July 14th and July 31st, and I will also send out any pertinent information as it continues to become available.

For those of you that ordered yearbooks, we are still waiting for delivery. As you know, production was delayed due to Covid19. I will send a message as soon as we have a distribution date. If you cannot come to school to pick up your yearbook, we will have it shipped to you. We sincerely apologize for the delay.
