Clinical experience that builds confidence. 💪
Through SCU’s Tactical Sports Medicine Clinical Rotation, students have the opportunity to strengthen their clinical skills, apply their knowledge in real-world settings, and gain hands-on experience alongside practicing physicians.
For Kelly Hoyt, this experience is helping her refine her physical exam skills, strengthen her clinical knowledge, and build the confidence that will prepare her for clinical practice after graduation.

Do you think small talk is awkward? Psychology has a different perspective.
Research published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology found that people consistently underestimated how interesting and enjoyable conversations about seemingly boring topics would be. Across nine experiments involving 1,800 participants, researchers asked people to predict how much they would enjoy conversations about topics they considered boring. After actually having those conversations, participants reported enjoying them more than they expected.
So why do we get it wrong?
Before a conversation begins, we tend to focus on the topic itself. But once we start talking, the interaction becomes more important. Feeling heard, responding to one another and discovering unexpected details about another person can make even an ordinary conversation meaningful.
This research offers an interesting reminder about social connection. We may be too quick to assume a conversation will be awkward, boring or not worth having.
That quick conversation with a classmate, coworker, neighbor or someone you meet at an event could be more enjoyable than you expect and may create a small moment of connection that matters more than you realize.
Maybe small talk isn't so small after all. 💬
