When it came time to choose a Halloween costume, something CLICKED in my mind! I’ve worked so hard and my dreams are finally manifesting. Sometimes we work so hard that we forget to stop and smell the roses.
CLIC began as a thought in 2008 when my mom wanted to open a daycare. I thought “ok, I’ll be her finance person” having just finished with my Bachelors in Business Finance. But as the years went on it became clear that I was the one to open the school. Somewhere along the way, I began telling people “When I grow up, I want to open a K-12 Montessori school in the LA area.”
Did you know that there aren’t any Montessori High Schools within 100+ miles of LA?! And definitely NOT created specifically for children of color! So it became my dream. And, guess what? It’s here! Despite all that 2021 has taken from me, it’s here… I’m here. And bay-bee… this little light of mine?! I have no choice but to let it shine.

You know what I love about teaching?? That moment when real world application meets in class teaching and everything just CLICKS! 💡💡
I aim to create that experience with every theme we have. This week, we achieved it by finding a pumpkin patch during our nature walk. The owner of the house came outside and said we could explore inside of the gated off area. OMG! I don’t know who was more excited- me or the kids!!

One of my FAVORITE things about Montessori is the Multiage classroom. Look at the pure joy on her face as she teaches our infant (8 months) how to complete a puzzle. The pieces are large enough for the infant to grasp but the work is complex enough to help the 2 year olds with one to one number correspondence and problem solving.
Other benefits of a multiage classroom:

💡 Children get to learn at their own pace
💡 Lastly, when students and teachers are together for up to 3 years, we get to know each child’s strengths and weaknesses very well and gain an understanding for what each child needs to be successful.

These students LOVE letter sounds. And we love following their interest.
This picture shows the girls using the to isolate initial sounds in words (example: take out the P for pig).
Next we’ll work on isolating the ending sounds in words (G for pig) then the “breath” of the word which is a vowel. They’ll be reading 3 letter “CVC” words in no time! These girls are 2 and 3 years old.
💡Remember, children learn to read at their own pace!
💡Nurture each child’s strengths without judgment.
💡 Trust the process! Children will naturally gravitate to what they need in life. When the time comes for them to learn math, they’ll learn it. When they need to read, they will. Etc
💡I can introduce all the things, but it won’t matter until it CLICKS for them based on experience and interest.
