Parents & Community Members,

An update on a few things for all of you...

- The CEP program (free breakfast/lunch for all kids) is going VERY well. Kids are really taking advantage of it. One thing that I have forgotten to mention to all of you is this program isn't a one and done thing. We'll be a part of it for at least the next five years.

- I want to give a brief shoutout to all our cafeteria folks. Cooking for over a thousand kids during a boil notice isn't the easiest gig in the world. A bit challenging, to say the least. Appreciate all their hard work this week! Thank you!

- On Thursday of next week and for the second year in a row, the WISD administration will be presenting to the board a balanced budget for the 2026-2027 school year. WISD continues to be very financially sound.

- Current enrollment: 1,421.

- Very shortly, all the pomp and circumstance that goes along with the Friday night lights will begin. We really want all of you to come out and support all the kids and programs. The kids need to know we're behind them as a community...and, yes, I'm biased...but they're really good at what they do! So if you've never seen all the Wildcats in action, come out and support them. It's worth your time! And, remember, when you're in the stands, be positive, be supportive, be a true fan. Please don’t do anything that will take away from their efforts. They are GREAT kids who work incredibly hard.

- If you can't make it, remember that the Whitney Wildcat Sports Network will be streaming it all. Ryan Fox and Kenney Heath did an amazing job last year, and their broadcasts became a huge hit. We had over 8,000 folks watching one of our playoff games. And, remember, Ryan will not only be doing the football games, but he'll also be broadcasting some of the Lady Wildcats volleyball games--who, by the way, won their season home opener Tuesday night! I'm very pleased with how this year has started. It has been really nice to have such a large number of our faculty and staff return this year. Continuity is important. It allows us to continue to move forward the first day or school, rather than spending some time regrouping as a district. We all see the progress, and we're excited. Everyone's working hard!

Parents,
Just a quick update. The city will not know until later on this afternoon or evening whether or not the boil notice will be extended. Again, we have to prepare for the worst, and so we'll do the same thing tomorrow that we have done today. If the boil notice continues, we'll have bottled water on hand for the kids if needed. We'd encourage you to have your child bring some water with them too.

Also, thanks to those of you who dropped off a case or two of water for the kids! Truly appreciate that!

Good afternoon. We will resume classes tomorrow. However, there are a couple of things we want to make sure everyone is aware of. While the city has yet to make an announcement regarding the current boil notice, we have to plan for the worst. WISD will have bottled water on hand for the kids tomorrow. However, it probably wouldn’t be a bad idea for the kids to bring some water to school as well. Will be much more convenient for everyone. Also we will be serving breakfast and lunch, but our amazing cafeteria staff is going to have to get a little creative! But they’ll get the job done—they always do. See everyone tomorrow!

Your local Brookshire’s is collecting funds to benefit the students and staff of Whitney ISD. At check out, you have a prompted option of selecting if and how much you would like to contribute to the "Supplies for Schools" campaign. You can “skip” the donation, “round-up” to the nearest dollar or donate in $1, $5, $10 increments or more. The campaign ends 8/25/26.

Parents & Community Members,
TEA will be releasing districts' accountability ratings soon. Overall, we've improved, but there are still some areas that we need to address. Here are our scores:

Whitney High School- scored an "A" (94). Last year the high school was rated as an "A" (91).
Whitney Middle School- scored a "D" (68), which was its score last year.
Whitney Intermediate/Elementary- scored a "C" (74). Last year their score was an "F" (57).
WISD- scored a "C" (78). Last year it was a "C" (75).

The high school's score of an "A" is impressive-and what's even more impressive is that they've scored an "A" in consecutive years. Not easy to do.

However, it's the IS score that I'm most pleased with-a seventeen point improvement is significant. Mrs. Seely and her teachers and staff worked incredibly hard last year, and there's no question they're headed in the right direction. Campuses don't turn around overnight. Usually, it's about a three year process. If they continue to do what they're doing, they're going to get very good very quickly.

Our goal is very simple at WISD—get better. I don’t care what it’s in—academics, volleyball, or maintenance. Just get better. Improve. And while I’m pleased where we are as a district currently, there’s still more to be done.
