🇺🇸🎶 Labor Day Weekend in Whiting is full of music! 🎶🇺🇸

Kick off the holiday weekend TONIGHT with the final Sheridan Plaza Summer Concert of the season, starting at 7:00 PM! Come downtown, grab a spot, and enjoy a beautiful evening of live music. 🎵

Then on Sunday, September 6, head to Whiting Lakefront Park for our final Summer with the Symphony concert of the season! The music begins at 7:30 PM as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday with a special Red, White & Blue Celebration. 🇺🇸

And be sure to stay until the very end—the evening will conclude with a spectacular fireworks display over the lakefront! 🎆❤️🤍💙

Bring your family and friends and help us close out a wonderful summer of music and celebrate Labor Day weekend right here in Whiting!

We’re a day late, but we couldn’t miss our final Throwback Thursday!

As summer comes to a close, so does our Throwback Thursday series. We want to send a huge THANK YOU to the Whiting-Robertsdale Historical Society and John Hmurovic for keeping us informed and entertained all summer long with incredible stories, photos, and facts about Whiting’s history.

We hope everyone enjoyed taking a look back at the people, places, and moments that helped shape our community. ❤️

Did you Know......

From the 1930s into the 60s, one of Whiting Park’s most memorable attractions for children was a miniature hillside village of stone houses.

Built at a kid-friendly scale, the tiny houses invited children to climb, crawl, and peek through small windows. A stone sidewalk helped make it feel like it was a village made just for them.

📢 WHITING RESIDENTS – FOOD VOUCHERS STILL AVAILABLE!!

The City of Whiting still has $75 Strack & Van Til Food Vouchers available for eligible Whiting residents who lost power due to the recent storms.

📅 Tomorrow – Tuesday, September 1st
⏰ 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
📍 City of Whiting Clerk-Treasurer's Office, located inside City Hall

If you were affected by the recent power outages and have not yet received a voucher, please stop by during these special hours.

Eligibility Requirements:
-Must be a City of Whiting resident living within city boundaries

-Must have experienced a power outage lasting more than 24 hours

-Must provide a valid Indiana Driver’s License or State ID showing your current Whiting address

-The City has a detailed list of the blocks and areas affected by the power outage to verify eligibility

Vouchers are available while supplies last, 1 per household.

CITY OF WHITING FOOD VOUCHER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

The City of Whiting, in cooperation with the Community Improvement Corporation, will be offering $75 Strack & Van Til food vouchers to help Whiting residents who experienced food loss due to the recent power outages.

The program will be administered through the City of Whiting Clerk-Treasurer’s Office, 8:30am-12:00pm.

Eligibility Requirements:
•Must be a City of Whiting resident living within city boundaries

•Must have experienced a power outage lasting more than 24 hours

•Must provide a valid Indiana Driver’s License or State ID showing your current Whiting address

•The City has a detailed list of the blocks and areas affected by the power outage to verify eligibility

The program will begin on Monday, August 31st.

A total of 211 vouchers are available. Vouchers will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Each eligible household will receive a $75 food voucher to Strack & Van Til, 1 per household.

9/11 MEMORIAL CEREMONY | 25 YEARS OF REMEMBRANCE

The City of Whiting invites our community to join us on Friday, September 11th, as we gather to honor and remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognize the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

📍 Whiting City Hall – Front Stairs
🕘 Ceremony begins promptly at 8:55 AM

The ceremony will begin with the ringing of church bells throughout Whiting, followed by a performance by the Whiting High School Band. The National Anthem will be sung as we raise the American flag, followed by a blessing and brief remarks from Mayor Steve Spebar.

We invite our entire community to join us as we come together in remembrance, reflection, and unity.

For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be live streamed and recorded so it can be viewed at a later time.

We Will Never Forget.
