Philosophy
The UW-Whitewater Intensive English Institute instructional philosophy is centered on our belief language development and human development are intertwined. The UW-Whitewater IEI carries out its mission by implementing Knefelkamp’s Developmental Instruction (DI) model. The DI model outlines four key variables on a continuum to challenge and support students: structure (framework/directi
on), diversity (alternatives/perspectives), experiential learning (concrete, direct learning experiences), and personalism (safe learning environments where risk-taking is encouraged).
