The Crossman Gallery serves the Department of Art and Design, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and the community by providing a forum for the exhibition of art works and related educational activities. By facilitating the exhibition of distinctive works of art, the gallery offers students, faculty, and visitors an opportunity to enjoy and study a variety of art expressions. The gallery also serves as an extension of the educational mission of the university by enabling students to exhibit their own work and conduct research into the objects presented throughout the year in the exhibition series.

We are thrilled to announce the winner of WOTA Collects Art 2026! Hollyn Peterson’s piece “But You Rather I Choke” was selected by students for acquisition for the Crossman Gallery’s permanent collection.

From Hollyn: “It was so wonderful to be back in Whitewater and in the Greenhill Center of the Arts Building. My favorite part was connecting with current students, being a current graduate student at University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, they had a lot of questions I felt like I was able to help with about getting an MFA, putting on their senior show, and the next steps after graduation. The turn out for the reception made the event exciting and full which made looking at the thoughtfully curated exhibition all the more exciting. I am honored to be considered for “WOTA COLLECTS ART” as this department and school has done so much to get me where I am today. Go Warhawks!”

Alumni highlight: “The turnout for this exhibition has been nothing short of amazing. It was so fun to catch up with friends, old professors, and see the changes to the building!
Some of my fondest memories at UWW were my times in my art classes and late nights working in the ceramic and printmaking studios with my peers. I always appreciated my professors for giving us opportunities to grow our skills and explore more options for our works— outside of the class setting. I continue to stay connected to UWW & the art world by judging high school art competitions alongside some of my professors, teachers, and peers from over the years— which is something I look forward to every single year. The Arts Department has left a lasting impact on so many in so many ways and I’m lucky to have been a part of something so special.”

Alumni highlight: “Through all my time at UWW I grew into the future me the younger Glow had always thought of, and with the insight of my mentor Dr. Ashley Dimmig I was able to express and practice inclusivity within my work and within the spaces I was put in.”

Alumni highlight: “My time in the UWW BFA program was pivotal to my career! The faculty pushed me and my work while also letting me explore the ideas, concepts, and projects I wanted to pursue creatively. Being back in the Greenhill Center of the Arts for the reception and connecting with faculty and friends was a great reminder of how much a supportive community can make a lasting impact.”

Alumni highlight: “I appreciated seeing all the wonderful interpretations by alumni artists expressing their ideas, imagination and creativity while using a variety of materials and mediums. This independence and willingness to express one’s unique point of view is very important in an environment where privacy and freedom appear to be vanishing without our consent.”

Alumni highlight: “It was great being back on the UW-Whitewater campus and, more specifically, inside the Crossman Gallery. Seeing my work hanging on those walls again brought back a lot of great memories from my time at UWW and reminded me just how much those years helped shape the artist I am today.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped bring the Alumni Art Show together and gave us the opportunity to come back, reconnect and share the work we’re creating today.

It truly was a great night, and one I’m grateful to have been a part of.”

Alumni highlight: “Random thoughts: I invited a fellow classmate (Edna Hedges-Hiltner) and her husband to the show — they live in the area. It was fun to reconnect with her and remember our time together at UWW. We had several Graphic Design classes together with David Saylor. He was a tough instructor who tried to impress on us the realities of Graphic Design work. We both got leads and were hired for our first real jobs (TSR in Lake Geneva, they created and produced the Dungeons and Dragons games) through his recommendations and follow-up.

I also met an alumni — Leslie Zantow. I loved her story and her artwork — she mentioned that she was working on transitioning her art to being more abstract and recommended an artist on Patreon, because I was interested in exploring this too. It was nice to be in an artist ‘hive’ again!

I’m grateful for the education I received at UWW and the caring instructors and fellow classmates I met while there.”
