Whitesville is a wonderful rural school located in eastern Daviess County. Our population consist of 380 students K-5, 40 Preschool students, 51 staff members, and great parents and community. Whitesville is a PLC school and we are focused on student learning and success and committed to do whatever it takes to make success happen. We never look for excuses, but rather we look for solutions to mak
e learning happen. Rigorous instruction is the norm and student engagement is the key. We were named a National Blue Ribbon School in 2007. One of the highest honors that a school can receive was granted to Whitesville in Washington DC in November of 2007. We feel the number one reason we were chosen was because of our outstanding students and how they strive to do the very best they can. We feel this also happened as a result of a staff that never gives up on a student. They work hard and most importantly they care about their students and families. And we do not want to leave off our parents. Their support and love for our school has made a huge difference. Whitesville introduced the Professional Learning Community work of the Dufours in 2008. Our PLC work is focused on seeing that every student in our building is on grade level and reaches one full year's growth on MAP testing. We have a core group that meets monthly, and grade level groups meet weekly to look at student work. We have a built in PLC enrichment time daily to make sure every child gets what he/she needs. The results of our PLC work has been amazing. We have over 89% of our students on grade level and who have met their one full year's growth. This kind of academic success comes from a lot of hard work from students, staff, and parents. We are so excited about the journey we started this summer. We are working towards becoming a Lighthouse School through the Covey Leader in Me Program. Students and staff will learn and live the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and our goal is to develop every student into a leader. We want our students to have the tools they will need to be successful in the 21st Century. The enthusiasm and energy has been amazing coming from the staff. This is going to raise the bar for our school. Please feel free to come visit our school and see all the wonderful things happening at Whitesville. We are very proud of our students and staff.
