We’re Hiring an Elementary Teacher!

Boone Prairie School in Whitestown is seeking a teacher for our elementary school. We are a classical Christian hybrid school where faith, character, strong academics, and a love of learning are at the heart of what we do.

On-campus schedule for students: Wednesday–Friday, 7:55 a.m.–3:05 p.m., with additional responsibilities for preparation, assessment, and parent communication.

We’re looking for someone who:
• Holds a college degree, teaching license not required.
• Has experience working with children.
• Has a committed Christian faith and supports our school’s mission.
• Creates a warm, structured classroom with clear expectations.
• Is organized, communicates well, and enjoys collaborating.
• Is willing to learn our classical approach, follow established curriculum, and receive coaching.

ON THIS DAY — SEPTEMBER 12, 2016

Ten years ago today, we received our official notice from the IRS with Boone Prairie School’s EIN. It may have looked like just a piece of paper, but to us, it marked the beginning of something God had been placing on our hearts.

With that number in hand, we were on our way toward digging the hole for our first school building, opening our doors, and creating a school community rooted in faith, truth, family, and meaningful learning.

We could not have imagined every student, family, teacher, challenge, prayer, and blessing that would fill the decade ahead.

A hole in the ground became a place of learning and a step of faith became a legacy.

Is your child’s school helping them become a leader or simply helping them get through the day? Middle school and high school are the years when habits begin to harden. Will your child learn to speak confidently, take responsibility, serve others, think critically, manage their time, and step into leadership? Or will hours disappear into video games, endless scrolling, social media, and passive entertainment?

At Boone Prairie School, we believe young people are capable of much more. We want students to become people who can walk into a room, look someone in the eye, carry on a conversation, defend what they believe, complete difficult work, lead when leadership is needed, and serve when no one is watching.

That means putting the phones away, reading real books, discussing real ideas, doing meaningful work, learning responsibility, and having teachers who expect students to rise to the occasion. It also means giving teenagers room to grow. Our hybrid schedule keeps students on campus Wednesday through Friday, with Monday and Tuesday at home for academics, family, work, interests, service, and developing independence.

Middle school and high school can be some of the hardest years to get right. Your child is becoming independent and developing habits that are leading into adulthood. Ideas about truth, faith, work, relationships, and the future are taking root.

Sometimes a school that worked perfectly well in elementary school simply isn’t what your child needs anymore. At Boone Prairie School, our middle and high school students are known. They aren’t one of hundreds moving anonymously through a hallway. They have teachers who notice when they are struggling and notice when they are capable of more.

They read real books, write, and discuss ideas. They study history, literature, science, mathematics, geography, and the world around them through a Biblical worldview. They have recess and time outside to develop and foster real in-person friendships. Our students learn to speak to adults, manage their time, meet deadlines, take responsibility for their work, and contribute to a community.

Our high school students can pursue dual-credit coursework, challenging academics, leadership, service, entrepreneurship, and opportunities that help prepare them for college, the trades, business, or whatever God calls them to next.

Should school begin in September? We think so.

We just read that a Texas lawmaker is renewing the push for schools to wait until after Labor Day and we agree. Boone Prairie has followed a September-through-May calendar for nearly a decade. Our experience has shown us that a later start is good for children, good for families, and good for the local economy.

August is still summer. In the Midwest, Lake Michigan and our northern beaches are finally warm. The Indiana State Fair is underway, and families still have opportunities to travel, explore, and spend meaningful time together.

Teenagers can continue working summer jobs. Those jobs teach responsibility, punctuality, communication, money management, and accountability. These lessons are every bit as valuable as those learned in a classroom.

Seasonal attractions can remain fully staffed. Pools, waterparks, camp programs, and places such as Holiday World depend heavily on teenage and college-age employees. Keeping those young people available helps these businesses remain open safely during some of the hottest days of the year.

It works better for families. College students are often home through the middle of August and available to help care for younger siblings. Families gain a little more breathing room before the routines and responsibilities of a new school year begin.

Students return rested and ready. A September start does not mean education is less important. It means we recognize that children also learn through work, family responsibilities, travel, outdoor experiences, service, and unstructured time.

For nearly ten years, Boone Prairie has demonstrated that a strong education does not require sacrificing the entire summer.

Sometimes the traditional calendar still makes the most sense.
