This morning, our Lial community gathered together for the first time this year to raise the flag, begin our day together as one school, and reflect with gratitude on the freedoms we are fortunate to enjoy in our country—and the responsibility we share to never take them for granted.

There are friends, and then there’s family. At Lial, we’re incredibly fortunate that our staff gets to be both for one another.

Yesterday, our team stepped away from the busy preparations for the new school year to spend the day together at our Staff Retreat, centered around the theme “United in Purpose and Friendship.” Through prayer, conversation, reflection, time outdoors, and a special message on friendship from Sr. Berneta Schneider, SND, we were reminded that the work we do together is made stronger by the relationships we build along the way.

One of the most meaningful parts of our day was Lectio Divina, reflecting and journaling on Sirach 6:5–6, 14–17 and its beautiful message about the gift of faithful friendship: “A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he that has found one has found a treasure.” We ended our retreat together in Mass with Fr. Jeff McBeth, from Saint John XXIII — a fitting way to begin another year united not only in our mission, but in our care for one another.

What a gift to have this time together—to strengthen our friendships, reconnect with our shared purpose, and prepare our hearts for the students and families who will soon fill our halls again. A special HUGE thank you to the Hariri Family Sidon Lebanese Grille & Bakery who so generously treated us to an incredible lunch from Sidon.

As one parent put it, our Back to School Family Food Truck Night is like a big family reunion! It is always such a fun night and a wonderful way to kick off the new school year. We love seeing familiar faces catching up after summer as well as having a chance to welcome in the newest members to our Lial family.

Cheers to a new year and many more memories like these!

Congratulations and prayers to the newly elected 2026–2032 Leadership Team of the Sisters of Notre Dame of the United States. May the Holy Spirit guide them with wisdom, grace, and joyful hearts as they continue making God’s goodness known.

We are especially proud to celebrate Sr. Susan Maria Kusz, a beloved former Lial teacher whose dedication to Catholic education has touched so many lives. Please join us in praying for Sr. Susan and the entire leadership team as they begin this new chapter. 💚💛

Please keep the new leadership team in your prayers as they remain open to the guidance of the Holy Spirit, united in one heart, one hope, and one mission. Join us in welcoming our new team, who assumed their duties on July 5, 2026.

Today we give thanks for the fathers, grandfathers, godfathers, and father figures who reflect God’s love in our lives. May they be blessed with the wisdom of Saint Joseph, the strength to lead with faith, and the grace to continue shaping hearts through their example.
