And we are off to a great Start!

Welcome back Trojans and Trojan Families. Today was an excellent day! The sun was sparkling, the kids were smiling and the teachers were shining.

It is paperwork time!
For you veteran parents/guardians: do not expect the traditional "purple folder" full of documents to sign tonight. We will NOT be sending that home today.
We have been working all summer on converting our documents to a digital format. This process is 90% complete. I have a few finishing touches to put in place.
On Monday, the purple folders will come home. Parents/Guardians will have the option to fill out the forms in hard copy like we've always done.
HOWEVER, parents will also have the option to fill out the multitude of forms digitally this year.
This will be the last year that we send home hard copies. We will call it a "soft launch" of our digital paperwork process.
So nobody panic when there is no papers to sign tonight. Wait until Monday.

Tonight is a great opportunity to start the habit of processing the day with your students. Having them recall what they did throughout the day is excellent for brain development.
The most common answer to "what did you do today?" is "Oh not much," or something similar. I assure you, today was packed!
Today the teachers reviewed classroom routines, and, especially in the upper grades, jumped right into curriculum!
Take some time to ask your child to review their day in detail. Have them start with what they did first, then help them develop the conversation throughout the day. This is a great time for you the parent/guardian to learn about your child's day, and it is great for your child's brain development and memory.

It's going to be a great year!

The Third-Grade class set a goal back in January. They wanted to work for mastery of all math-facts up to 12. A deal was struck. Those who achieved mastery would get to throw pies at Mr. Koenig. This week, it was time for Mr. Koenig to pay his debt, happily! Well done Third-Graders! You earned this!

End of Year Awards!
Throughout the year we give out monthly awards to students who exemplify the Universals (Ready to Learn, Responsible, Respectful, Safe) and our Portrait of a Graduate proficiencies (Communication, Perseverance, Critical Thinking, Adaptability, and Technology Literacy).
In the last couple days we have presented awards to students whose specific efforts towards their academics this year have been exemplary.
Students who made the moth growth in their classroom in Math and Reading all received awards.
The objective here is that we want our students to set achievable goals, make a plan to achieve those goals, and when they reach them, be celebrated by us all.
The students pictured here all put forth exemplary effort and they have earned their "Brainiac" Trophy!

The fifth-grade class attended an informational and fun field trip experience at Piedmont Pond. FWP, Game Wardens, and other fishing and water resource experts taught the students about the waterways and the life that exists in them. Then the students all had an opportunity to fish. The fishing was good!

The first-graders enjoyed an amazing field trip to various sites in Butte this week. They visited Wagner Nursery where they all got to pot a plant. They also toured the famous Berkeley Pit. They ended the day with a ride on the carousel.
