To our Whitehall-Coplay Community,

Our students deserve high-quality professionals and support staff in order to unlock the potential inside of every single one of them.
The recent budget shortfall that the District finds itself in is distressing. Any decision to take services or positions away, or increase class sizes, means that the quality of our education is at risk. Our students should never be punished for financial and economic factors outside of their control.

The Whitehall-Coplay Education Association has proposed a few cost-saving measures to the District. These measures focus on things our members can, in order to save money, adjust on, even if it is temporary. It also includes a proposal to allow more senior, higher-paid members to retire a bit earlier, a move that will relieve some of the financial burden and help the district plan better and not have to resort to so many furloughs or layoffs.

While our educators did not create this problem, we will work with the administration to be a part of the solution. Our students deserve no less.
We believe that any savings, no matter how marginal, can help reduce the deficit and let the District get back on a better financial path. We do not believe furloughs or program cuts to ANY staff member is the solution.

We are asking you please make your voice heard at the upcoming School Board Meeting tomorrow, May 18th, at 7PM, at the WCSD Ed Center (former Gockley building). Our students have passionately and eloquently asked administration to leave no stone unturned in fixing the budget without cutting their programs or educators.

If we work together as one Whitehall-Coplay family, we can encourage the administration and the School Board to keep up the work they have been doing these past few weeks. We can encourage our administration and Board to keep identifying areas to cut from the budget that does not include ANY staff member, from teacher to paraprofessional to secretary to nurse to maintenance. Every one of these positions supports students growth and success.

Please join us, again, as we encourage the board to STOP THE STAFF CUTS!

Respectfully,

The Whitehall-Coplay Education Association
