Ms. Donato and four of our Dream Makers are in Orlando, Florida, this week at the CADCA Midyear Training Institute, learning proven strategies to tackle substance misuse, va**ng, underage drinking, and prescription drug misuse in our community.

They'll be coming home with new tools to keep building a healthier, safer White Swan for our youth and families.

Teen drinking can be hard to spot, but as a parent or caregiver, you know your child best. If something feels off, trust your instincts and check in. Look beyond the obvious—changes in mood, sleep, or friends can be signs that something’s going on. You don’t have to have all the answers—just being there can be enough. Teens who feel supported by their parents are less likely to drink.

How easy is it for a middle school student to get alcohol in our community?

That’s one of the questions on our quick, 5-minute community survey—and we need your voice!

Each year, our coalition receives $185,000 to help prevent youth substance use and promote mental health in our community. To keep this funding—and continue supporting events like our annual Gathering of Native Americans (GONA), Spring Carnival, and Summer Jam—we need at least 150 community members to complete the survey.

Yesterday, coalition member Joshua and coordinator Julie had the opportunity to meet with Senator King in Yakima to talk about an important issue in our community—limiting youth access to retail alcohol in White Swan.

We had a great conversation and appreciated the chance to share what we’re seeing locally and the steps we’re taking to support our young people.

It was a successful meeting, and we’re looking forward to continuing this partnership as we work together to create a healthier, safer community for our youth.
