The White Settlement ISD Police Department is the 12th ISD police department in Texas to achieve Accredited status by the Texas Police Chiefs Association (TPCS). Only 232 of the 2,700 law enforcement agencies in Texas have earned the distinction.
The Law Enforcement Accreditation Program is a voluntary process that allows police agencies to demonstrate their compliance with more than 170 Texas law enforcement best practices.
J.P. Bevering, Program Coordinator for TPCS, presented the WSISD PD with the honor. “This program is the Gold Standard for professional law enforcement in Texas,” he said. “The WSISD Police Department spent over a year auditing and modifying its policies, procedures, and operations to meet the rigorous standards.”
The standards are based on Texas law, court decisions, and law enforcement best practices, addressing the full range of operations. They were developed by Texas law enforcement professionals to help agencies deliver services more efficiently and effectively, reduce risk, and protect the rights of every individual they serve.
Law enforcement experts made an on-site visit to check every policy, practice, and procedure. They interviewed staff, inspected facilities and operations, rode with officers, and ensured the agency met compliance with each of the 173 standards. The Accreditation Committee, comprised of nine police chiefs and sheriffs throughout the state, reviewed the assessment and voted unanimously to award Accredited status to the WSISD Police Department.
WSISD has an officer at every school as well as a Safety, Security and Emergency Management Director who is a licensed police officer. Congrats to this amazing group of individuals who strive to ensure the safety of our students and staff every day!
