𝙵𝙰𝙻𝙻 𝙵𝙾𝙻𝙺 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃: Greenwood Shrink Boxes

Discover the magic of a centuries-old Nordic craft! 🪵

A shrink box (or traditional Scandinavian krympburk) is an ancient container made by fitting a dry wooden bottom into a freshly turned, wet green wood cylinder. As the green wood naturally dries, it shrinks and locks the base into a flawless, tight seal—no glue or nails required!

Students will learn basic hollowing techniques on the lathe and how to work with the movement and character of green wood. Each finished box will be one of a kind and can be left simple or embellished with texture and colored with milk paint.

Some previous woodturning experience is ideal – the class will begin with a brief refresher on lathe safety, tools, and basic turning techniques.

𝙵𝙰𝙻𝙻 𝙵𝙾𝙻𝙺 𝙲𝚁𝙰𝙵𝚃: Intro to Spoon Carving

We are delighted to announce that Steven Antholis is back once again for a special day of connection and craft as we learn the simple art of spoon carving.

Throughout the day, Steven will share his wealth of knowledge and provide in-depth demonstrations on process, safety, technique. Students will be provided a roughed-out spoon blank to practice and hone their skills, finishing the day with a near-complete eating spoon and the confidence to continue carving on their own at home.

This workshop includes a light lunch and warm beverages, to be enjoyed together on Steven’s beautiful handmade wooden creations.

Now’s your chance to learn from a master of their craft – Steven is visiting all the way from the Olympic Peninsula and is sure to offer a memorable day of learning one of the oldest human crafts.

WOW ⭐️ Our community showed up big time for our Open House on Saturday! We had so much fun spending time together on this absolutely gorgeous fall day. We welcomed many new faces into our space and enjoyed seeing familiar folks, too!

THANK YOU for coming out and supporting what we’ve got going on here. We had a great time getting crafty, talking shop, and sharing our offerings with you all. It fills us with joy sharing in the excitement of learning and making with you all.

We are super excited for the Fall season around here. 🍂

If you haven’t already heard, we just launched a spectacular lineup of folk craft classes, featuring some amazing instructors, new and old (and visiting)!

As we transition into darker days, we hope you can join us in the space to warm up your hands and your minds through the wonders of crafting and making together.

If you were a fairy, where would you live? 🧚🏻‍♂️

We have a super fantastical afterschool workshop coming up! In this 5 class series, students will design and build their own fairy house from start to finish, paying close attention to all the steps along the way.

We will spend time sketching what the house will look like, choosing materials for the foundation, walls, and roof, making furniture using sewing and felting techniques, designing the outdoor space, and creating tiny objects like dishware and books using air dry clay.

At the end of the workshop, students will create a homemade book telling the story of their fairy house and share their projects with the group.

We are so excited for this creative experience and hope you can join us!

We are kicking off our Fall Folkcraft Class Series and Youth Programming by opening our doors and welcoming in our MakerSpace community, new and old. Drop by to tour the space, explore our tools and machines, meet our fall instructors, and get inspired by projects you can make yourself this upcoming season.

We’ll also have a Barn Quilt Painting demo—try your hand at making a mini quilt painting to take home and hang on your house or shop space!

All ages, backgrounds, and experience levels are welcome. Come curious and get creative! 🍂

What a summer! ☀️🛠️

We wrapped up an incredible season of youth summer camps at Gorge MakerSpace—and what a season it was. Our schedule was jam-packed and sold out, with campers filling the space each week to dream, build, experiment, create, and make something uniquely their own.

From Kidsville and Sewing Pajamas to Woodturning, Skate Camp, Make It to Market, Stained Glass, LEGO Robotics, Giant Chain Reaction Machines, and Magic Potions & Forbidden Brews—there was no shortage of creativity, curiosity, and fun.

A huge thank you to all of our campers, families, instructors, and volunteers who made this summer so memorable.
