Gorge Makerspace

Gorge Makerspace Gorge MakerSpace is a nonprofit based in White Salmon that offers classes and tools for the community

Gorge Makerspace is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving the diverse makers, artists, and doers of the Columbia Gorge community. Our mission at Gorge Makerspace is to empower and inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to explore and build their creative skills. Through hands-on projects, camps and workshops, we help unlock the potential of the hands and mind, and reconnect people with the

ir power to make and repair. Our culture of innovation, collaboration, and lifelong learning, creates a space for everyone to discover their way to make a positive impact on the world. We envision a skilled, empowered, and resilient community, finding connection through collaborative problem-solving, creating, and experiential learning. The Maker movement, a worldwide community of inventors, crafters and tinkerers, believes that learning is best done through doing. At Gorge MakerSpace, students learn the fundamental principles of science, technology and math through their own creations—and have fun doing so. We are located at 32 NE Pioneer Place in White Salmon, sharing a parking lot with Bethel Church. We offer after school courses, open studio, and week-long camps for students of all ages. Gorge MakerSpace is directed by Jack Perrin, a licensed high school physics teacher with over 20 years' teaching experience in alternative education. A builder and tinkerer all his life, Jack founded a sustainable living school in Colorado where he taught straw bale construction, photovoltaics and rainwater collection. He and his family moved back on the grid, and back to his native NW to help make STEAM education in the Gorge a blast.

Join us in our upcoming Beginner Woodworking class:

Curtain Rod Shelf
August 18 & 20th
5:30-8:30pm

You’ll get a comprehensive look at most of the machines in the woodshop, learn how to true up a piece of wood so that it’s square, and get familiar with how jigs can come in handy to add extra effects on the router.

By the end of this 2 session class, you’ll go home with your own custom shelf that can be installed halfway up a window to add privacy and hold plants.

This is a great opportunity for beginner woodworkers and those wanting to gain more in depth familiarity around the woodshop!

We hope to see you there. ✨

Have you seen our brand new hand painted SIGN?! We are freshening up our space over here and it’s also serving as a great backdrop for photos.

Here we have a woodturning student posing underneath it with his beautiful, freshly turned bowl!

Swipe for process shots of the metal fabrication for the frame. ➡️

We hope you love it just as much as we do!

Together, we will explore the natural world around us and create our own handmade colors to paint and dye wool with. We will explore and experiment with painting, felting, creating cyanotype and anthotype prints, and at the end of the week, put our new skills to the test with a color scavenger hunt!

If you’re looking for a last minute creative experience for your kiddo before school starts back up in the fall, this is just for you!

That’s a wrap on Tool Up 2026! Another eager group of high-school students spent a week learning all about careers in construction, through job site visits around the gorge and hands-on learning at the MakerSpace shop. We visited small residential builds and big commercial projects, learned from professionals in several trades, built picnic tables, framed walls, plumbed a sink, wired electrical outlets, and so much more!

Thank you to our crew of skilled volunteers for passing on your skills of the trade to this crew of eager young learners.

And a big thank you to our lead sponsor AGC, co-sponsors Walsh Construction and Lions Club, as well as all of our host sites:
