World Class Kayak Academy World Class Kayak Academy is a traveling high school for students who want to earn their education while exploring unique rivers and cultures around the world.

World Class Academy is an accredited internationally traveling high school with sport-specific programs for kayakers, mountain bikers, climbers, kite boarders, and surfers WCA takes pride in being the first program to offer an exceptional education to student-athletes using whitewater kayaking as a vehicle to instill life lessons, build confidence, and hone skills.

Campbell lived life like he was bound by nothing. Whether he was skiing, mountain biking, or kayaking, he found joy in adventure and in spending time with his family and friends in the great outdoors.

It’s our turn to continue living with this spirit! Bound By Nothing is a page dedicated to bringing Campbell on your next adventure.

The loss of Campbell Kowalczyk has been deeply felt by everyone who is a part of our community. This is a post to celebrate Campbell and his life.

Campbell grew up in Boise and loved being outside. Whether he was skiing, mountain biking, or kayaking, he found joy in adventure and in spending time with his family and friends. His passion for the outdoors was shared by his parents and his older brother, Mateo, who also attended World Class Academy in the 2022-2023 school year. Campbell had a depth of character that left a lasting impact on those around him. He was deeply loved and seen by others.

On March 31, 2026, during the fourth quarter of the school year, 17-year-old junior, WCA student-athlete Campbell drowned while kayaking with the school in Lofer, Austria. During a descent of the Saalach River, Campbell became trapped in an undercut rock on the Devil’s Gorge section. Despite efforts by those on the scene, Campbell was not able to be rescued. Campbell was recovered the following day by Austrian authorities.

The grief and heartbreak caused by Campbell’s loss are impossible to fully express. His absence is deeply felt by his family, friends, classmates, coaches, and the entire World Class Academy and whitewater community. Campbell will always be remembered as an adventurous, kind, and valued member of our school, and his memory will remain an enduring part of WCA’s history.

We are profoundly sorry for the loss of Campbell and continue to hold his loved ones in our hearts.

Looking to the Future

World Class Academy will be postponing the upcoming school year for the Kayak Academy. This pause will allow us to strengthen the school’s core programs and prepare for a successful return in the 2027–2028 school year. Updated destinations and additional information are available on our website. The Kayak Academy will remain focused on a Fall Semester 2027 start in Eastern Canada, followed by terms in Zambia, Patagonia and Central Chile. We look forward to once again combining our students’ passion for rivers with meaningful academic experiences, personal growth, and adventure through travel.
