Once a Fanwood New Yorker, always a Fanwood New Yorker!

Fanwood alumni currently living in Frederick, MD have one thing on their minds: Let's Go Knicks! Lorraine Stoltz '73 made it extra special by ordering blue and orange bagels all the way from NYC for her fellow alumni to enjoy together.

Fanwood kicked off 2026 with a vibrant and heartfelt celebration!

Students and staff came together for a schoolwide parade, engaging activities, and a meaningful exploration of LGBTQ+ history, identity, and the Pride Flag. It was an afternoon of learning, joy, and a powerful reminder of what inclusion, acceptance, and allyship look like in action.

A heartfelt thank you to the GSA Committee and everyone who helped create such a meaningful and educational experience for our community.

NYSD was honored to celebrate AANHPI Heritage Month through a powerful and fully accessible presentation shared in both English and ASL by guest presenter Yehjun Kim, known as "Yeh." Through his own journey, Yeh explored the rich history and contributions of the AANHPI community, the importance of embracing identity, and the deep connections between Deaf and Asian cultures.

He shared the beautiful Korean concept of Jeong (ì •), a bond of connection and belonging that resonated deeply with the Fanwood Community. Yeh's work as an ASL interpreter, content creator, and advocate for the Asian Deaf community is a true inspiration. NYSD is grateful for this meaningful moment of cultural celebration and reflection. AANHPI excellence deserves to be celebrated every single day!

What an incredible day at Fanwood! We were honored to welcome Dr. Caroline Solomon, President of RIT's National Technical Institute for the Deaf and Vice President of Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), to campus today.

Dr. Solomon had a full and well-rounded visit, touring our elementary, middle, and high school programs, engaging with our students, connecting with school leadership, and learning about everything from our academic programs to our extracurricular activities and summer camps. She also presented to our staff about RIT's vision, strategic framework, and NTID's strategic journey.

As an accomplished scientist and educator who has devoted her career to advancing opportunities for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students in STEM and beyond, Dr. Solomon is a powerful role model for students everywhere. We are grateful for her time, inspired by her vision, and excited about the future of our continued partnership with RIT/NTID!
