Good Morning Ya'll...☕
There's so much to acknowledge in the month of April. Not only are we celebrating counselors and the counseling profession.
We also need to acknowledge that it's Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness month & National Child Abuse Prevention Month!
Lastly, it's NATIONAL MINORITY HEALTH MONTH!!!!!
There were sooo many posts yesterday about the Dr. Fauci's response to Covid-19 and the African American population. The government presented this information as 📣 alarming news...
Why are deaths reportedly higher in the Black & Brown communities? For one, there are alarming rates of homelessness and poverty in the Black & Brown communities; which leads to lack of healthcare. In addition, there are preexisting conditions like asthma, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity and diabetes. The Black and Brown communities are saturated with fast food restaurants and pantries that provide non-perishable foods that are boxed and canned. It's not just about making better choices its what's afforded to you within your community. It's about the type of medical providers in these communities, it's about the health coverage plans, it's about the prescription drugs or lack thereof...its about the social construction of "ghettos" or "urban neighborhoods" and types of stores within these neighborhoods... we can also add in mental health, transgenerational trauma?
