Tables packed with colorful displays, sign-up sheets and plenty of sweet treats drew hundreds of White Plains High School students to the first Club Fair of the school year on Thursday. Dozens of organizations throughout the school introduced themselves to prospective members. Students moved from table to table, chatting with club members, grabbing informational materials and sampling goodies while discovering the many ways to get involved at WPHS. 🖤🧡

The sound of music filled the Highlands Middle School band room Wednesday morning as a group of eighth-graders practiced pieces they will perform at White Plains’ Veterans Day ceremony. Band teacher and flutist Jennifer Pyne kept the rehearsal moving briskly, correcting notes, reminding students to watch their breathing and urging them to sit tall as they brandished their flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones and percussion instruments. 🎺🥁🎼

The Orange, White Plains High School’s student newspaper, has earned a Gold Medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association’s Medalist Critique Program, recognizing the work of its student journalists during the 2025-26 school year.

The honor reflects the dedication of the newspaper’s 20-member after-school staff, whose students report, write and produce The Orange while continually working to strengthen the publication.

“It’s impressive to read a publication produced by a 20-person after-school staff,” the CSPA critique stated. “These students have shown through their writing that they are committed and are dedicated student journalists.”

The critique added: “Overall, your student body and faculty should feel proud of this staff.”

The Orange is advised by White Plains High School English teachers Gia LoScalzo and Marlena Simmons.

Congratulations to The Orange staff on this outstanding recognition as its student journalists build on their success in the 2026-27 school year! 🖤🧡

Highlands Middle School students spent the day building community and practicing teamwork during today’s field day! The school hosts field day in the fall each year to give students an opportunity to connect and build relationships early in the school year. Students played games such as volleyball, capture the flag, soccer and basketball. There was even a ninja warrior obstacle course set up, and the whole school ended the day with a tug-of-war! 🐯

Congratulations to White Plains High School Junior Ailsa Patel, who qualified for the 2026 All-State orchestra! Ailsa will represent WPHS as a violist at the NYSSMA All-State music conference in Rochester this December, surrounded by the top-scoring high school musicians from all over New York State. Ailsa earned a place in the orchestra with a perfect score of 100 on her performance of Rebecca Clarke's Viola Sonata at the NYSSMA solo festival last spring. She is pictured here with WPHS orchestra teachers Zachary May and Joanna Smulakowski.
