The 15 Year Battle for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 01/15/2024

Today is an opportunity to revitalize ourselves in the relentless action and advocacy that is the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This link recounts what it took to get to this day. Current events show there is no room for complacency.

The 15 Year Battle for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Despite the national fervor inspired by his death it took 15 years of persistence by civil rights activists a holiday created in remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to be approved by the federal government and an additional 17 years for it to be recognized in all 50 states.

To our Members:

The horrors unleased by the terrorist attacks of October 7 have had a profound, sad, and deep impact on our Westchester community and on all who seek a peaceful world.

The Westchester Women’s Agenda condemns the attacks and calls for the end of violence that is taking so many innocent lives in Israel and Gaza. We denounce terrorism, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and hold that there is no place for brutality, oppression, violence and cruelty in this world. We say to those who are suffering: you are not alone. This is your community. We condemn those who promote hostility and would drive us apart.

The times ahead will be difficult but, as we work to build a better world, we will face the future together.
