The Calais School is a leading state-approved private nonprofit special education school serving young people in grades K through 12 Plus since 1970. Our mission is to empower and encourage students with special needs including ADHD, reading and math weaknesses, anxiety and mood disorders and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Academic programs based on NJ Core Curriculum Content Standards;
Behavior Modification Programs that encourage students to employ appropriate social skills, problem-solving and assertiveness;
Our Cognitive/Behavioral Counseling team provides emotional support and cognitive strategies for students;
Learning Consultants provide IEP supervision and consultations with teachers to ensure the use of individualized and differentiated instruction;
Speech & Language specialists address the basic skills of language and social skills development;
Reading Specialists assist students with specific reading difficulties;
Students come to Calais by referral from local school districts, therapists, and counselors throughout nine northern New Jersey counties.
