The ICE Conference is next week! As we’ve done in the past, on Friday, March 2nd the Technology in Education program will be hosting a lunch ‘dessert’ from 12:00 – 1:00. If you are attending Friday, grab your lunch and join us in the Atrium area to say hi. We’re always interested to hear about the interesting things our former and current students are doing! ISTE SIGTE Webinar
On Monday, February 27, 2012, ISTE SIGTE is presenting a free webinar with Dr. Penelope Swenson discussing her use of iPad's with pre-service teachers. The basis of the discussion is a presentation by Dr. Swenson last Spring, entitled, "iPad—the Third Hand," asking a rather global question, will a select group of pre-service teachers incorporate the iPad into their lives, hearts, studying, and, eventually, teaching?
During the webinar, Dr. Swenson will share the research she has done thus far with both pre-service teacher groups and their use of iPads, including many lessons learned and a few roadblocks encountered.

Last spring Dr. Swenson presented "IPad—the Third Hand," asking a rather global question, will a select group of pre-service teachers incorporate the iPad into their lives, hearts, studying, and, eventually, teaching? That presentation became a paper that may be seen here: http://www.nssa.us/tech_journal/volume_1-3/vol1-3_article_9.htm

The paper gives some background on the grant and what she has accomplished through about six months of using the iPads. That first group had the iPad 1. The group Dr. Swenson is currently working with is using the iPad 2--and it is a hit with them. There are more options that teachers and prospective teachers find highly useful. There are downsides too with both generations.

“We have learned a lot about implementation of a technology with pre-service teachers and the utility and versatility of the iPad as a tool. “

Dr. Swenson will share the research we have done thus far with both groups and their use of iPads, including many lessons learned and some mistakes made in addition to what works and what works well.
