In Ohio County Schools, we LOVE a good . Meet Wheeling Park High School Class of 1986’s Jason Frohnapfel.
After attending St. Vincent de Paul School for elementary school, Frohnapfel attended Bridge Street Middle School before becoming a Wheeling Park Patriot. A member of the football and baseball teams, he played both sports during his sophomore year before continuing with baseball throughout the rest of high school. He graduated from Wheeling Park High School in 1986.
Looking back, Frohnapfel credits Ohio County Schools with giving him a strong educational foundation, but he also points to something beyond academics that helped prepare him for the world: accountability.
During high school, Frohnapfel explains that choices he made resulted in consequences that changed the course of his education. He graduated a semester later than originally planned and without the friends with whom he had expected to graduate.
“At the time, those consequences brought feelings of guilt and shame and meant missing out on many opportunities,” he shared. “But those missed opportunities led to other doors being opened.”
Frohnapfel turned his experience into one that would change his life: one of those doors was serving his country in the United States Air Force. His military service helped build his confidence and ultimately provided him with access to G.I. Bill benefits. That experience became a turning point, motivating him to put greater effort into his education. He went on to earn both a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree, with a portion of his education funded through the G.I. Bill.
Today, Frohnapfel is the owner of Achieve Behavioral Health, a company that has been serving the community for 10 years. He has also spent the past eight years working with Ohio County Schools, truly bringing his journey full circle. He explains, “Achieve Behavioral Health is a lot more than just me. It is a team of highly skilled, empathic and dedicated clinicians and motivated, professional staff that work hard to respond to all referrals, maintain the clinical records and data and meet the needs of all of the students that we are signed to work with.”
“I have enjoyed meeting each and every student who I have worked with and have learned something from all of them,” he said.
Away from work, Frohnapfel and his wife, Betsy, have been married for 27 years. They have three adult children and one grandchild. Betsy serves as the County Administrator in Marshall County.
Their oldest son, Austin, and his wife, Nicole, live in Florida, with their child. Austin works in the aerospace industry, while Nicole is a certified nurse practitioner. Their daughter, Grace, works as a personal trainer in North Carolina. Their son, Justin, recently graduated from West Virginia University and is pursuing his master’s degree in sports psychology.
From a Wheeling Park baseball player to an Air Force veteran, graduate student, business owner and now a mentor to students in the same school system that helped shape him, Frohnapfel’s story is a reminder that our paths don't always unfold exactly as planned, but they all have the opportunity to lead to AMAZING things.
