Challenger Learning Center, Wheeling, WV Inspiring the next generation of explorers! What started out as a tragedy on the morning of January 28, 1986 has turned into a monumental, educational triumph.

The Challenger Learning Center brings space, science, and hands-on discovery to students and educators through immersive STEM experiences that make learning unforgettable. The Challenger Center for Space Science Education, serves as a living legacy to help students build the skills most needed for the 21st century, including decision making, teamwork, problem-solving and communication. The Challen

ger Learning Center Network has grown to comprise 48 locations across the United States and other nations serving more than four million students to date. Our center is located on the campus of Wheeling Jesuit University. Our doors opened in 1994 and currently offer programs for students in grades kindergarten though high school. We also have a distance learning program called "e-Missions" that connects our center to schools across the country as well as all over the world via video conferencing equipment and the internet.

Join us here at The Challenger Learning Center for a rare, behind-the-scenes conversation with 3 astronauts who have also served as classroom teachers.

Our panelists will share personal stories from their missions with NASA and their time in the classroom, reflecting on what it takes to turn curiosity into discovery. Together, they’ll connect the wonder of spaceflight to a deep passion for teaching the next generation of explorers.
Attendees will have the opportunity to submit questions directly to the astronauts during the event. 🚀

What an Incredible Challenger Learning Conference!

We’re back from a fantastic Challenger Learning Conference in Framingham, Massachusetts, and we’re bringing home new ideas, new connections, and plenty of inspiration!

There were so many highlights, we talked with an astronaut on board the ISS and had the opportunity to meet with June Scobee Rodgers, retired astronaut Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger, and Cheryl McNair. It was an honor to spend time with these incredible women once again, who continue to inspire students, educators, and Challenger Learning Centers around the world.

We also loved connecting with our fellow CLC colleagues, sharing ideas, learning from one another, and talking about the future of STEM education.

A HUGE thank you to our wonderful CLC hosts in Framingham for welcoming us and putting together such a great conference. Your hospitality and hard work made it a truly memorable experience!

We headed back to Wheeling energized and ready for another great year of inspiring the next generation of explorers, scientists, and innovators! 🚀

🚢 Wheeling: A Port of Call for American Cruise Lines! 🚀

We were absolutely honored to be offered as an excursion for guests of American Cruise Lines as Wheeling welcomed their passengers as a port of call!

And what a FUN visit it was! Our guests stepped into the simulators, took on their missions, worked together, and experienced a little taste of what it’s like to be part of a space mission.

We loved sharing the Challenger Learning Center experience with visitors from across the country and showing them a little of what makes Wheeling such a special place to visit!

🚀 Our Mission Simulator wasn't the only place buzzing with excitement yesterday, we also had an amazing crew of young explorers from Camp MountainHeart join us for our Micronauts mission!

These future scientists and engineers brought incredible energy, curiosity, and teamwork as they tackled hands-on STEM challenges and discovered what it takes to work together on a space mission. From asking thoughtful questions to solving problems as a team, they impressed us every step of the way!

🚀 What an incredible day in our Mission Simulator! We were thrilled to welcome an outstanding group from Camp MountainHeart for an exciting Expedition Mars mission!

Our Mission Control team and astronauts worked together to overcome challenges, communicate effectively, and make critical decisions as they explored the Red Planet. Their teamwork, problem-solving skills, and determination were impressive from launch to mission success!

🚀 What an amazing day at the Challenger Learning Center! We were thrilled to welcome the incredible crew from the YWCA for our Destination Mars mission.

From the moment the countdown began, these students worked together like true astronauts and mission controllers—communicating, solving problems, and making smart decisions under pressure. Their teamwork and determination kept the mission moving forward, and they rose to every challenge with confidence!

The excitement didn't stop there. As aerospace engineers during our Cargo Drop Challenge, they put their creativity and problem-solving skills to the test by designing and building systems to safely deliver cargo to the Martian surface. Their engineering skills were just as impressive as their mission performance, and they did a fantastic job!

Thank you, YWCA, for spending the day exploring, discovering, and inspiring us. We loved having you on board and can't wait to see where your STEM journey takes you next! ❤️🪐
