D21 Details: One Field, One Community

Sometimes, it’s the little details that help build a strong school community.

This summer, Field Elementary School added a new welcome sign to its main hallway, featuring every language spoken by students and families at the school.

It’s a simple but meaningful way to celebrate the diversity of our district and help every member of the Falcon community feel seen, valued and welcome.

We're proud to see this in action, creating spaces that reflect the students, families and communities we serve.

Even though it's only the second week of school, it's never too early to practice being prepared!

Our students have been taking part in bus evacuation drills, learning important safety procedures and practicing how to safely exit a bus in an emergency. These drills help ensure our students know what to do – and can do it confidently – should the need ever arise.

A big thank-you to our students and staff for taking safety seriously!

What a way to bring our community together!

Earlier this month, our Family Fun 5K brought students, families, staff and community members together for a morning of fitness and giving back. Thanks to everyone who participated, we were able to raise $2,700, which will be shared among the District 21 Health Center, the Wheeling Police and Fire Departments Unity Foundation, and the Greater Wheeling Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry. ❤️

And, of course, we couldn't have made it happen without our amazing sponsors:

➡ Scooter's Coffee
➡ The Knights of Columbus
➡ The Learning Academy
➡ Tasca Chevrolet
➡ Wheeling Helping Hands
➡ Culver's
➡ Chicago Executive Airport
➡ Walmart
➡ The Rewind Sports :60

A special shoutout to our valedictorian, Reynolds Consumer Products, for helping us put the perfect finishing touch on the race – literally! Runners crossed an aluminum foil finish ribbon as they completed the 5K!

Thank you to everyone who ran, walked, cheered, volunteered, sponsored and helped make this year's Family Fun 5K such a success. We can't wait to do it again!

📌 Fact Friday: Here’s what’s next in the boundary review process.

The Map Design Committee has completed its work, and CCSD21 is moving into the next phase of the process with several opportunities for the community to stay informed and provide feedback this fall.

September 24 at 6:30 PM: Special Board of Education Meeting: Committee recommendations and grandfathering options presented, no action taken
September 25–October 12: Public written comment period
September 29 at 6:30 PM: Virtual moderated town hall
October 15 at 6:30 PM: Regular Board of Education meeting

No boundary decisions have been made at this stage. Any approved changes would take effect no earlier than the 2027–2028 school year.

We’ll continue to keep our families and community informed and share additional opportunities to participate as the process moves forward!

📅 2026-27 calendar update!

The Board of Education has approved an amendment to the 2026-27 academic calendar. Tuesday, April 6, 2027, will now be a districtwide e-learning day in conjunction with the consolidated election.

This change allows the final possible day of student attendance to move from Tuesday, June 1, to Friday, May 28, barring the use of emergency days.

Students will follow the district’s established e-learning procedures on April 6. More information will be shared as the date approaches.

There's no manual for the first day of preschool, just a whole lot of patience, reassurance, flexibility and love.

Some of our staff went above and beyond today to help our littlest learners feel safe, welcome and ready to take on their new routines. Sometimes that means a warm smile, sometimes a helping hand...and sometimes, it means getting down on the floor – or even under a bench – to offer a little extra comfort.

We're so grateful for the incredible staff who make those first-day moments a little easier and a lot more joyful.

Welcome to preschool, kiddos! We're so glad you're here.

It’s a Falcon thing, for sure. But Principal Joy has been such a leader for our Frost community. Check out some final thoughts she had as she wrapped up her last first day of the year.

There was something especially meaningful about this first day of school for me.

As we wrapped up the first day today, I found myself filled with gratitude. Gratitude for the opportunity to lead this incredible school and for the students, staff and families who make Frost such a special place each and every day.

In case you didn't know, this was my final first day of school as your principal, and while that brings plenty of emotions, I am choosing to focus on what matters most: the memories we will make together.

Today was filled with the smiles, excitement and energy that make the first day so special. And I am so excited for one final great year at Frost – one more year of welcoming students through our doors, celebrating their growth, cheering them on, laughing together and creating the moments that make this school so special.

Because...it's a Falcon thing. It's the spirit, pride and sense of community that make Frost what it is. And together, we SOAR – supporting one another, trying new things, celebrating successes and making memories along the way.

Thank you, Frost, for allowing me the privilege of being part of this community. I am so grateful for every moment and can't wait to see what this final year has in store for us.

One last day down. One incredible year ahead.

- Principal Joy
