Last school year, Ms. Unique was inspired by viral Tik-Toker, Coach Balto, originator & founder of the Portland Bike-Bus, to start a Wheelie-good attendance initiative now known as, the Bridge Street Rollers!
In collaboration with the Ohio County Family Resource Network, Ms. Unique was connected with The Free Bike Depot. Due to the kindness of John, Kevin, and the Free Bike Depot team, students at Bridge Street Middle School were given access to free Bicycles, so that all could be included in our Bike-to-school initiative. The Governerners Highway Safety Program and Wheeling Police Department also donated Helmets to students so that we could practice bicycle safety during our travels!
The Bridge Street Rollers will be biking to school daily! Once a month, bridge street staff will join the students, bringing along a special guest from our community for a live ride! Students who participate in this attendance initiative will also have the chance to earn Pedal Points, which can be redeemed for a special prize each month! If your student missed sign ups, that’s okay, they can see Ms. Unique or Mrs. Rose for a permission form.
September is attendance awareness month, yes, but attendance, as you know, matters EVERY DAY! If you’re in the Elm Grove area, be on the lookout, you might catch a glimpse of the Bridge Street Rollers on their ride to and from school!
If you’re interested in participating in our bike-to-school initiative as a special guest, please complete the Google form linked in the comments below!
We want to send a special thank you to our collaborators and donors, as well as our BSMS staff, students, and parents for participating in this initiative. Without you, these ideas do not come to life!
